Solo Leveling – Season 1 Episode 2

Published: Jan 16 2025

Episode 2 of Solo Leveling kicks off with Song approaching Sung with admiration, commending his keen observational prowess. Acknowledging Joohee's fragility in high-pressure situations, Song entrusts Sung with the task of attending to his wound. As Song reminisces about his encounters with B-Rank dungeons, he concludes that the colossal statue, which unleashed the laser beam, must belong to the realm of A or even S-Rank adversaries. Reciting the verses from the scripture he perused in episode one, Song's thoughts drift, wondering if the deity mentioned within could indeed be embodied by the towering statue.

The scene shifts to Sung's sister, Jinah, who engages in a conversation about Sung's profession with a classmate. We then revert our focus to Sung and his comrades inside the second dungeon. Song suggests devising a robust strategy, but his proposal is met with resistance from a party member who underestimates the threat and attempts to flee using his speed. Tragically, he falls victim to the statue's laser beam attack. Sung, puzzled by the statue's lethal intent, prompts Song to recall the first commandment inscribed in the ancient scripture.

Obedient to the commandment, which commands reverence towards God, Sung bows before the statue. Miraculously, the statue halts its assault, hinting to Sung that it is indeed the deity referenced in the scripture. Sung instructs the others to follow suit, and they narrowly escape death's embrace, albeit temporarily. The God statue then rises from its throne, advancing towards the hunters. Song seeks Sung's guidance on their next move, prompting Sung to recall the second commandment advocating praise for God.

A male hunter approaches the statue with prayers, but his words fall on deaf ears as the statue dispatches him. Sung surmises that the hunter's plea lacked sincerity or relevance to the statue's deity. When a female hunter meets a similar fate, the remaining heroes are driven to flee. Park attempts to escape the statue's wrath by distancing himself, but his efforts are thwarted by one of the statue's allies.

Noticing statues adorned with musical instruments nearby, Sung directs his allies towards them. Song and another companion approach these statues without encountering hostility. Meanwhile, Sung and Joohee take refuge behind another statue, with Sung leaving Joohee in its protective embrace, uncertain if it could shield both of them.

Before Sung succumbs to the God statue's wrath, he reaches a nearby statue bearing an instrument just in time, and this act saves his life. The God statue retreats to its seat, revealing to Sung that praising it through music is the correct approach. Joohee rushes to Sung's side, realizing that he has lost one of his legs in the ordeal.

As Joohee meticulously treats Sung's wound, Kim lambastes Song for his lackluster leadership and questionable decisions. Suddenly, the floor beneath the hunters' feet splits open as the God statue comes to life, conjuring an ancient altar. Sung shares insights about the altars and their storied past, along with the third commandment's directive for individuals to demonstrate their unwavering faith in God. Kim urges Song to make the ultimate sacrifice. Song steps forward towards the altar, leaving Sung burdened with guilt, believing Song is bearing the brunt of their dire circumstances.

Suddenly, flames flicker and surge around the altar, casting an eerie glow. Sung orders two hunters to convey him to the altar for closer inspection. At the altar, Sung and Song debate whether they should wait for assistance to arrive. Sung enlightens the listeners about the "dungeon break" phenomenon—a catastrophic event where gates fully open after seven days, allowing monstrous creatures to invade the real world. He emphasizes the urgency for hunters to vanquish a dungeon's boss and seal the gate before the seven-day deadline. Sung's worst fear is that if they fail to thwart the God statue, it could escape its confines and wreak havoc in the real world.

Sung instructs Kim and Joohee to venture into the altar's domain. Almost instantly, numerous statues advance upon the hunters. Sung cautions everyone to keep their gaze locked on the statues. Under immense pressure, a female hunter breaks ranks and flees into the unknown. One hunter assumes she has escaped unscathed, leaving Sung puzzled and pondering the situation. Another hunter buckles under the strain, abandoning Sung on the ground and fleeing in the same direction as the woman. Kim makes a move to flee as well, but Sung reminds him and the others to maintain their focus on the statues. He hypothesizes that the blue flames encircling them serve as a countdown, and once they fade, they'll be free to depart. Kim commends Sung for his leadership but decides to depart regardless. Song tells Joohee to flee with Sung and abandon him. Despite her intentions to escape, Joohee finds her legs immovable, possibly due to the excessive power she expended healing Sung's wound. Sung urges Song to flee with Joohee, but she refuses to abandon him. Song, unwilling to see both of them fall, knocks Joohee unconscious and deserts Sung.

Sung resigns himself to facing the wrath of the dungeon statues. As he tries to fight back, the statues overpower him. Amidst the brutal assault, Sung reflects on his life's journey. Just before the final flame flickers out and a statue lunges for Sung, a mysterious log materializes before him. This log declares Sung eligible to become a "Player," giving him a mere two seconds to accept the offer or face death. The episode concludes with Sung accepting the fateful proposition.
