Episode 2 of "Skeleton Crew" kicks off with the children emerging from the depths of hyperspace, their eyes wide with the novelty of their surroundings. Wim, eager and impetuous, lunges for another button, ready to bolt once more, but Fern's steadfast hand halts him in his tracks. That is, until the mechanical footsteps of a droid echo through the ship. Introducing SM-33, a nod perhaps to Peter Pan's loyal sidekick, Smee, but with a metallic twist.
Fern, seizeing the moment, asserts her authority, declaring herself the captain and taking the reins with a confident stride. SM-33, the enigmatic droid, guides Fern in piloting their vessel, yet its databanks remain barren of any information on their enigmatic planet, At Attin. Blame falls heavily on Wim's shoulders, but as he wanders off, Fern resolves to embark on a quest to seek out assistance in navigating their way home.
Meanwhile, Wim stumbles upon a treasure trove of pirate relics: hats adorned with gaudy ribbons, a compass with a needle pointing to adventure, and a spyglass polished to perfection. It's worth noting, this isn't just any ship, but one laden with electronic marvels and sophisticated scanners.
The children find themselves at a bustling spaceport, where Fern's leadership shines as she orchestrates their quest for answers. KB and Fern find themselves inadvertently separated from the boys, and their encounter with a local brings amusement at the mention of At Attin. The name, it seems, holds a certain whimsical charm.
Elsewhere, Wim and Neel find refuge in the shadowy confines of a bar, unfortunately placing them squarely in the path of the very pirate crew they crossed in the first episode. Their payment in Old Republic Credits draws curious glances from all corners, sparking whispers and rumors. It transpires that At Attin is not just any planet, but a legend in these parts—a beacon of eternal treasure.
Just as tensions flair and tempers flare, Fern steps bravely into the fray, confronting the pirates head-on. Yet, her bravery is short-lived as a gun is swiftly wrested from her grasp. But SM-33, loyal to the end, leaps to her defense, shielding her from harm. Fern, initially ready to abandon her comrades, reconsiders her stance as the boys voice their solidarity, refining her demands with a renewed sense of unity.
SM-33 dispatches everyone with swift efficiency... until the remainder of the crew arrives on the scene. Brutus, the authority figure here, promptly throws them all into the brig. They resort to the classic "Pirates of the Caribbean" maneuver to try and retrieve the key, which conveniently hangs tantalizingly on the far side of the room.
As squabbles begin to erupt among them, they swiftly come to the realization that they are not the only occupants of the cell. It transpires that the old captain, Jod Na Nawood, is also imprisoned here. With a wave of the Force, he summons the key across the room, making it unmistakably evident that he is either a Jedi... or a Sith.
