As the episode of "Steal" begins, the day dawns after the daring robbery. Zara awakens to the news that her crypto account holds a staggering £5 million. Without hesitation, she transfers the entire sum to a cold wallet and conceals it behind her fridge at home. Stepping into the office, Zara encounters Luke and shares her discovery, warning him to move his crypto off his account immediately. She emphasizes the importance of acting swiftly, as leaving it online would leave a trail between "us and them."

Steal – Season 1 Episode 2 1

The revelation that Zara and Luke were intimately involved in the operation is evident. Initially promised a simple hack and login details, they were not integral to the thieves' massive heist. Luke's nerves are clearly frayed, and he struggles to keep his composure. He's eager to turn himself in to the police and reveal everything, but Zara urges him to keep calm and play it cool.

In his agitated state, Luke is summoned to a meeting with the returning detectives, Rhys, Ellie Lloyd, and Darren Yoshida, a financial investigator. Yoshida presses Luke hard, as the investigators are piecing together the evidence and realizing that someone from within Lochmill was working with the thieves. The tension mounts as they dig deeper into the case, leaving Luke and Zara's involvement in the operation more exposed than ever.

The detectives immediately suspect Luke due to his jittery, nervous demeanor, but Yoshida believes there could be someone else from the Trade Processing Team involved. To help everyone unwind, the team is forced into a "trauma bonding session," sitting in a circle and discussing the events of the previous day. The experience brings back horrific memories of working in a call center and playing "team games," and anyone in this profession can relate!

After the meeting, where Luke admits he's scared for his life, Zara catches up to him. She urges him to call in sick with stress and transfer the money from his account to a cold wallet, just like she did. Then they need to "chill and keep their heads down."

That afternoon, Zara visits her mother, intending to patch things up. The two don't get on well, and while it's not explicitly stated, it's clear that her mother has a drinking problem. Their conversation doesn't go well, but Zara has an ulterior motive for being there. She hides the cold wallet containing her $5 million in a shoebox under the floorboards. It's the last place anyone would think to look, although her mother does notice her messing around in the room and grows suspicious.

Meanwhile, Rhys and Ellie do what they can to try and get the money back before it's gone forever. It seems to have been moved to a Swiss account, and unfortunately, reversing the transaction is completely off the table.

On his way home, Luke calls Zara. He's jittery and struggling to hold it together, toying with whether to call the police and be done with this. Luke is convinced he's being bugged, which actually isn't wrong. It turns out the thieves have been keeping tabs on him the whole time, and they eventually decide to terminate him and be done with it.

The thieves break in and storm the building, intending to take out Luke, just as he calls Rhys and pleads with him to come over so they can talk. Zara is also heading over too, but the thieves get there first. Armed with a screwdriver, Luke takes advantage of the chaos and after hiding in the closet, gets the jump on one of the assassins, stabbing him in the shoulder before rushing out of the building.

As the assassin's life drained away, another thief snatched the camera from Luke's living room and made a swift escape via the elevator. The pair managed to get away, but their work was not yet done. There was still one more assassin lurking. He stalked Luke through the corridors, but he ultimately made it to the main lobby... only to be blindsided. He was kept down and injected with a sedative.

The surprising twist was that Zara had been watching the entire time as the two assassins worked on Luke before bundling him into the back of their car. They also took the video surveillance footage from the block before speeding off.

Alone, Zara managed to find a stray bottle from the poison the thieves used. Interestingly, there was a bloody thumbprint on the side. As she left the building, Rhys showed up and noticed her sneaking out the window.
