As the news broke, Kendall was stunned to hear that they lacked the necessary board numbers or stockholder support to halt the impending sale. He had believed he had it all locked in, with four votes secured and more in his grasp. But when the informant mentioned Roman, Kendall's composure faltered. He claimed ignorance of Roman's whereabouts or his stance, yet he insisted he was in control of the situation.

Succession – Season 4 Episode 10 1

Shiv anxiously informed Mattson that she had lost Stewy, but she remained confident, boasting that she held as many cards as Kendall. The race was neck-and-neck, down to the final stretch, but she was convinced they would prevail. However, the identity of the new CEO remained uncertain. When Shiv discussed Tom's role, she dismissed him as a mere interchangeable piece in the game. While ATN flourished, she suggested Tom's presence wouldn't matter much, implying he was expendable.

Caroline's urgent call interrupted Shiv's thoughts, informing her that Roman had arrived at her doorstep. Shiv pondered if Shiv herself should make the trip, realizing that acquiring Roman's support could potentially unite them all, a favorable sight.

Shiv evaded Mattson's inquiry about the caller, but she realized leaving would give her the chance to meet Roman and perhaps align everyone's interests with a unified front. Tom sought clarity on his position, but Shiv evaded the question, choosing instead to address their relationship. She pondered if there was anything left between them, asking Tom to reveal his feelings rather than sharing her own.

Shiv confessed her fear of the worst in any relationship, but she believed that once the worst was said, one was liberated. However, Tom's response left her unsettled, indicating he was no longer interested in a genuine relationship. Shiv hastily ended the call.

Hugo's urgent news that Roman had arrived sent Kendall into a frenzy. He declared that speaking with Roman was crucial, a matter of life and death. However, his mother cautioned that it was a discussion for them alone, emphasizing Roman's fragility. Kendall, determined, set out immediately.

When Roman appeared, battered and bruised, his greeting rang hollow. He muttered that he had engaged in a heated debate with Shiv's allies over the merits of liberalism and democracy. Caroline's call came at an inopportune moment, her voice sounding like jelly-filled eyeballs rattling within her skull, her face resembling a collection of eggs.

Kendall eventually catches Stewy and reveals that he's been aware of Roman's whereabouts all through, yet he's always had him under wraps. Stewy casually mentions Walter Lawrence, leaving Kendall enraged. He storms into the house, shouting for Roman. Shiv chastises him for his aggressiveness. Roman, unperturbed, tells Kendall to not "screwdriver" him, and Kendall retaliates, blaming Shiv for manipulating him.

Kendall is furious at Roman's sudden change of heart, and Roman, in a cold tone, asserts that Kendall lacks what it takes. He admits to changing his mind, leaving Kendall fuming. Caroline inquiries if the siblings will join for dinner, to which Shiv confidently responds that she's got it all figured out. Kendall, despite his anger, decides to stay.

Meanwhile, Tom and Greg accompany Matsson at an art exhibition. Their interactions are strained, with Tom fearing for his job. Greg, on the other hand, seems indifferent, secure in the fact that Matsson favors him. Tom reminds Greg that if he's fired, Greg's lucrative $200k salary as the highest-paid assistant in history will be in jeopardy.

Kendall confides in Shiv, revealing that he's secured Stewy's support and drops Walter Lawrence's name, insinuating that Matsson might be eyeing other candidates for CEO. He begs for their support, offering to relinquish the 100 IP. Shiv and Kendall finally confront each other, with Shiv declaring that she's won and Kendall should accept it.

Tom and Matsson dine together, the atmosphere filled with Tom's misery. Matsson prompts Tom to pitch himself, almost like a beggar singing for his supper. Tom's strategy is to do as he's told, to go where the wind takes him. He describes himself as a "grinder," always on edge, fearing threats to himself and his division. He boasts of his vigilance and high tolerance for discomfort.

However, Matsson wants to be honest. He wants to keep their conversation private. He questions if their relationship has become too much, recalling Tom's overzealousness in the India tactics. He initially thought family continuity was a good idea, but now he's reconsidering. He tells Tom that he doesn't need more ideas because he's already overflowing with them. He needed a bit of political connection, but now realizes it's surprisingly easy to acquire.

With Shiv in the room, the conversation held a hint of tension, almost like the clicking of gears in a machine. Why settle for the baby mama when he could have the one who planted the seed? Matsson wasn't in search of a partner; he was scouting for a decoy, a shield to bear the pain while he lurked in the shadows, pursuing his own agenda. Tom seemed like a fitting candidate. Matsson referred to him as Logan Mark II, but this iteration was undeniably charming.

Tom assured Greg that it would all work out, but he didn't elaborate much. Instead, he activated a language app to eavesdrop on Matsson's conversations. Over dinner with Caroline, she suggested that the offer from that unsavory man might present a new beginning. She brought in Peter and a man named Jonathan to discuss a scheme they had been cooking up. Kendall excused himself to take a call, which was from Greg. He pondered if he could offer something remarkable in exchange for something extraordinary. "Buckle up," he said cryptically.

Kendall then placed a call. Matsson was engaged in other conversations, but Kendall persisted. He summoned Shiv and Roman away from the table, informing Shiv that Matsson was having an affair with her. She scoffed at the notion, convinced it was a baseless rumor. She decided to confront Matsson directly, labeling Kendall's actions as desperate. Kendall conceded that it would indeed be pathetic if it weren't true and urged her to call Karolina. Her name had been scrubbed from the relevant documents.

The siblings reunited, now aligned on the same side. Tellis suggested that as a united voting bloc, they could achieve their goal. But they would need a leadership strategy. Unfortunately, the so-called "Incredible Fuckbrother Bandwagon" hadn't helped their credibility. The only thing they could agree on was their desire to eliminate Matsson. Kendall suggested that he should be the one to do it, but Roman quickly interjected, claiming that his father had promised it to him. Shiv wondered what else their father had said in private. Kendall revealed that he had promised Roman the task when he was just seven years old. Roman quipped, "Like, can you imagine? Pics or it didn't happen."

Kendall confessed his regret, claiming he never should have uttered those hurtful words to any of them. Deep within, he pondered if Roman truly desired the throne. Kendall recalled Roman's collapse at the funeral, perhaps a sign of his inherent goodness. He, on the other hand, was a corporate psychopath, while Roman was well-balanced. Shiv, having aligned herself with Matsson, had made a colossal mistake. Kendall confessed his desire to be the chosen one, wanting to safeguard the company for their family, for their children, for all of them.

As they reached the beach, the conversation shifted to sharks, and I had a genuine fear that Kendall would become their next meal. This moment gave Shiv and Roman an opportunity to converse, Shiv emphasizing Kendall's insufferable nature while Roman feared Shiv's incompetence. Roman pondered who Logan truly intended to pass the reins to.

Shiv remarked that she believed Logan cared only about surviving, one step at a time. They briefly toyed with the idea of eliminating Kendall, laughing hysterically about the potential chaos if their attempt failed. They then bestowed their approval upon Kendall, Shiv granting him permission to smile, which he did with a broad grin.

Caroline rejoiced in their momentary consensus, free from discussing her shortcomings as a mother. Roman's decision to nibble on Peter's cheese elevated the mood, leading to the creation of a grotesque blender concoction. Just before Shiv handed it to Peter, she spat into it. Kendall questioned if this was the right course of action, wondering if they would truly be alright.

The siblings returned, united, with Connor inquiring if they would participate in the great reallocation, a system where they would affix stickers to the items they desired. It was a bereavement system, with varying degrees of grief. Roman questioned if Connor intended to keep some of the items for himself, but it seemed they would live apart, Willa remaining here and Connor elsewhere.

Connor presents a video capturing a dinner with Logan, detailing a chronicle of presidential losers through the years. Roman, amused, watches Gerri deliver a seductive limerick, while Connor performs a bawdy rendition of "I'm a Little Teapot." Karl joins the fun with an Irish tune, drawing in others to sing along. The children huddle close, gazing at their late father with longing.

Shiv and Tom meet at the Great Reallocation, where Shiv declares the entire affair a disaster. Tom remains tight-lipped, avoiding revealing his knowledge. His stuttering inquiries lead Shiv to believe he's the culprit, and she scoffs, unable to fathom why Matsson would choose such a "hollow suit." She wishes him luck, emphasizing that they have the numbers to prevail.

Tom drags Greg into a bathroom, engaging in a physical altercation over Greg's betrayal. Tom had been so close to the prize, yet Greg's meddling has thrown the entire race into chaos. Tom calls Matsson, who roars, demanding phones to lock in votes. He orders Frank to be summoned.

Karolina ponders if Hugo's fate lies in the coming changes. Roman spots Frank hurrying, and Hugo wonders how to prepare for the deal. Kendall takes the helm, but Roman mocks the significance of the chair. Stewy checks in, and the board wonders if they have him in their grasp. His selfish nature...

Roman spots Gerri and decides to leave, promising to cast his vote. His composure is cracking, and Kendall senses his distress. He ponders why it wasn't him chosen. Kendall embraces his sobbing brother, comforting him as Roman's stitches burst.

The board meeting commences, and Kendall's overconfidence leads straight to a vote. Frank declares GoJo a sound deal, unable to vote against his conscience. Shiv departs, hesitating on her vote. Kendall and Roman pursue her, begging her to reconsider. She reveals her change of heart, declaring that Kendall wouldn't be suited for the role. She declares he cannot be CEO, having killed someone. Kendall protests, claiming it was a false memory. Roman demands the truth, and Shiv and Roman refuse to support him. They argue heatedly, until Roman reveals Logan's claim that Kendall's children are not his. Kendall grabs Roman's face, and a fierce struggle erupts. Shiv returns to cast her vote, sealing Kendall's fate.

Kendall remains determined to find a deal, but Roman advises him to let it go. It's nothing, he insists. Roman knows they are all flawed. Kendall gathers his composure and strides into the boardroom, where whispers swirl around him. Frank announces the news: the deal is done.

The GoJo team rejoices, posing for photographs. Tom seeks to celebrate, sharing a ride with Shiv, their hands barely touching. Roman finds solace in a bar, sipping a martini with a wry smile. Kendall, defeated, walks towards the water, accompanied by Colin. The credits roll, marking the end of a tumultuous chapter.
