Succession – Season 4 Episode 4 1

Shiv and Roman, already present, steer clear of the well-wishers, their minds whirring with questions about Marcia's presence. Roman claims he's fine, yet a sense of impending doom lingers. Kendall looks ravaged, admitting he's a wreck and hasn't slept. Shiv nods in agreement, yet they know they must rally. For some, this is a time of sorrow, but for others, it's a race to the throne.

The executives, Tom included, converge in a room, attempting to gauge the mood and speculate on who will emerge as the new leader. The decision is to be made in an hour. They withdraw into a private room, and Roman remarks that Logan intended to fire half of those present. Should we broach that subject now?

Greg offers his condolences, but the reception is frosty. Roman dismisses him sharply, reminding him that this isn't a game and they're not his caretakers. Fuck off and leave us to our business.

Matsson calls, but they defer the conversation. The executives fret over the children potentially ruining the deal. Gerri throws her hat into the ring, offering to broker the deal, and Karl suggests he might be a better fit. This is shaping up to be a nasty battle.

Tom also declares his intention to lead, and Karl, in a roundabout manner, suggests Tom is in over his head. Roman calls Matsson, but Oscar interrupts. Matsson is displeased by their delay in answering, sensing a power play. Kendall assures him it's not a ploy; they simply wanted to discuss the situation. The conversation is surreal, as they attempt to convince at least one of them to finalize the deal. Shiv suggests, given the circumstances, they could come to the US. But it's the corporate retreat! The absurdity of the situation is palpable.

Connor and Willa embark on their presidential honeymoon, and Connor informs Marcia that when it's time to sell Logan's property, he'd like the opportunity. She names a figure, and he's stunned, countering with a much lower amount. She nods, accepting his offer, revealing her serpentine nature.

Frank, the executor, stumbled upon a distressing document. Karl pondered if they could simply erase its existence. It was a handwritten business letter, with sections haphazardly scratched out, sending them into a frenzy. Upon Gerri's arrival, Frank revealed it was a contingency plan for Logan's death, discovered in his personal safe. They hovered over it, fearing it might slip into the toilet bowl.

Connor finally joined the fray of siblings. Kendall, having undergone a therapy session in the dead of night, offered his contact number to the others. Hugo warned Kendall that he might have stumbled into something bigger than he realized. His daughter had sold a considerable amount of Waystar stock just before his father did. Juliette, his daughter, was the one he had been conversing with in the lobby, though he claimed they barely spoke.

Shiv, Roman, and Kendall dissected the will, decoding what truly lay beneath the facade of racist and lenient terms on sexual assault. Tom's interruption interrupted their deliberations, informing them they were summoned to the library. He offered Kendall his services, to which Kendall responded, "I like you, Tom. Good luck."

Frank recounted that Logan had once desired Kendall to take the helm. They noted the document was outdated, with addendums scribbled, and thus not legally binding, especially considering Logan was no longer the majority shareholder. The board would have to decide. Kendall grasped the paper, noticing fresh underlines, but Shiv questioned if they were cross-outs, rendering it irrelevant. Kendall was displeased.

The document also mentioned artworks Logan possessed in the Geneva vault for tax evasion. Shiv suggested burning them for insurance purposes, to which Karl concurred, citing financial gains.

Greg entered the room next, his name inscribed on the sheet, accompanied by a question mark. He declared himself ready to be the second in command.

Kendall and Frank remained alone. Ken questioned the authenticity of the document, pondering if his father truly intended him to succeed. Frank replied with a qualified "sometimes." Kendall lamented that his father had made him hate him, and now he was gone.

Roman and Shiv debated if they could rally behind Kendall. Shiv was apprehensive, for their collaboration had been smooth, but would this change things? Shiv had gradually come to the realization that they had caused Logan's death. If they had agreed to the deal, he might have lived another twenty years, doting on his grandchildren. They shared a tender conversation.

Colin arrived, dressed casually with his child in tow, trailed by the Secret Service and their dogs. Jarod Mankin was on his way, and Shiv declared it a mere transactional encounter, not suitable for this day. Roman and Shiv argued before Kendall intervened, stating that on a business level, they needed to maintain a professional relationship.

As whispers flew around the room, Tom leaned in close to Greg's ear and murmured, "You know, Logan died trying to fish his iPhone out of the toilet, and he wasn't even wearing his compression socks to impress Kerry." Connor frowned, annoyed by the way the dude was painting Logan as a neocon, whereas he was a staunch paleolibertarian.

Sandy arrived, accompanied by her wheelchair-bound father. Kendall greeted her warmly, causing Shiv to wonder what his intentions were. Roman smirked, asking if she preferred them or the old guard at the helm. Shiv remained silent.

Marcia was visibly agitated by Kerry's presence. She made a move to retrieve some of her things upstairs, but Colin quickly blocked her path. Roman came to her aid, offering to carry her bag. She insisted that Logan had intended to marry her, asking Roman to verify it. He shook his head, deeming it unnecessary.

Kendall sought Shiv out for a private conversation, but she quickly evaded him. Tom cornered Roman, discussing the "piece of paper" situation. He reminded Roman that only they knew Logan had summoned him back.

Stewie's antics made Kendall laugh, which then turned into tears. Kendall confessed to Stewie about the piece of paper and begged him to step in for him. Stewie reminded him of the last time he'd done so, ending with a scorched groin. Kendall insisted he wanted the deal, claiming he had plans with his siblings, but bringing home the deal would look good.

Kendall gathered his siblings for a discussion. He argued that one of them should take over to finalize the deal and move forward with Pierce. Shiv insisted it had to be her, emphasizing that they worked best together. Roman confessed that he felt uneasy with Kendall alone, given his closeness with Logan.

Kendall repeatedly brought up the "piece of paper," causing Shiv to bristle. He reminded her of her inexperience, but Shiv refused to budge. It seemed Kendall and Roman were the consensus, but they knew the board wouldn't approve three successors. They painted it as a necessary step to sell the company.

The siblings pledged to work together equally, promising not to betray each other. However, Shiv's expression darkened as they presented their plan to the executives. Stewie intervened, but Shiv appeared disengaged.

The executives approved the plan, and Kendall and Roman stepped forward, basking in the applause. Shiv, however, stormed off, slipping on her shoes and falling awkwardly into the living room.

Kendall and Roman entered Logan's office for the first time, accompanied by Hugo and Karolina. They struggled to find their footing, but Hugo and Karolina quickly proposed tarnishing Logan's reputation to burnish the new team's. Roman was offended by their suggestions, and Kendall concurred, refusing to slander their father. Roman warned them never to bring such ideas again, securing a victory for the new team.

Kendall stared at a scanned copy of the letter on his phone, his eyes fixated on the underscore strikeout. He stepped away from Roman and whispered to Hugo, acknowledging that such tactics would be Logan's style. Kendall knew the waters were about to get choppy.
