The episode kicks off with Ted Black (Stephen Amell) engaging in a conversation with Erica Rollins (Lex Scott Davis), bringing up the name of Dylan Pryor (Victoria Justice). Though Erica admits she's unaware of Dylan's identity, she readily agrees to attend to whatever requirements Dylan might have. Soon after, Ted bumps into Amanda Steven (Maggie Grace) and inquires about Hanrahan within the District Attorney's office. Amanda retorts, half-jokingly, that if she knew Hanrahan was prosecuting her, she'd resort to robbing a bank.
Driven by curiosity, Erica seeks out Leah Power (Alice Lee) to uncover any insights Leah might have on Dylan. Meanwhile, Ted and Kevin (Tony Winbush) take a deposition from Lester Thompson (Kevin Weisman), who recounts the night Simon met his demise. Following the session, Kevin whispers to Ted that he can spot a liar a mile away. Ted disagrees, insisting that while Lester may be many things, a murderer he is not.
Elsewhere, Dylan dials Rick Dodsen's (Bryan Greenberg) number, seeking information on Erica. Rick informs her that Erica is more than capable of handling her affairs and that he can't represent her in this matter. Ted then heads over to see Hanrahan, intending to discuss Lester's case, but instead encounters Elizabeth Smith (Sofia Pernas). She reveals she has a host of individuals lined up, ready to testify that Lester is a liar. This encounter jogs Ted's memory back to 2010, post-explosion, when he accompanied Samantha Railsback (Rachelle Goulding) to a comedy club.
Stuart Lane (Josh McDermitt) sets up a meeting with Samantha, proposing not to nominate Rick as the head of entertainment. Elsewhere, Erica and Leah convene with Dylan's indie agent and close friend to deliberate over Dylan's contract. They reach a consensus, agreeing to release Dylan from her indie contract obligations. In another corner, Stuart confronts Rick, informing him that the only way he can secure the position as head of entertainment is by poaching a client from Ted—a legally dubious proposition they can't pursue.
Kevin presents Ted with incriminating bank statements, unequivocally proving Lester's theft from Simon. Ted, however, dismisses them, claiming they lack substantive proof. Meanwhile, Leah blunders by divulging excessive information to Dylan's adversaries, much to Erica's dismay, though her scolding is abruptly halted by Rick, who interrupts to procure Erica's signature on a waiver authorizing him to represent Dylan. Initially hesitant, Erica eventually succumbs to Rick's persuasion.
Ted seeks Amanda's counsel, informing her that he has been assigned Smith as the prosecutor. She warns him of Smith's relentless pursuit of victory at any cost. Ted confesses that this case is crucial for him; his instincts scream Lester's innocence, and a loss could mean the collapse of everything he's built. Amanda's words trigger a memory of Ted's earlier conversation with Samantha, amidst passionate kisses, when he abruptly excuses himself to call Kevin. He instructs Kevin to keep the agents posted at the hospital and to compile all of Billy's confessions. Additionally, Ted ponders who could have orchestrated the bombing at Billy's place, to which Kevin responds, "Jimmy Patriale."
Rick consults Fred, announcing his intention to release Dylan after four months. Fred, puzzled, inquiries why when he requires her for six. This revelation prompts Rick to discover that Dylan actually possesses forty scenes, not six as he had mistakenly believed. Leah visits Erica to discuss the new script Rick has sent, prompting Erica to advise her to arrange dinner with Fred and hint at an offer from Warner Brothers.
Flashback to 2010: Ted, accompanied by the FBI, raids and apprehends Jimmy for Billy's murder. During interrogation, Ted confronts Jimmy with witness testimonies implicating him in planting the bomb. Jimmy, though acknowledging his presence in the vicinity, denies any involvement, asserting that Billy's demise rendered all evidence moot. Ted counters by revealing that Billy is still alive, employing a comedian impersonator to mimic Billy's voice through a two-way mirror, adding a dramatic twist to the tense interrogation.
Kevin extends a heartfelt apology for his harsh confrontation with Ted, acknowledging the intensity of his approach. Ted responds by confessing that he intentionally shut Kevin out, fearing the truth in his words might confirm Lester's guilt. Kevin acknowledges his own dishonesty, admitting he wasn't truly alright with allowing a potential criminal to evade justice. Ted, however, reveals a shocking stance: if push comes to shove and Lester is proven guilty, he's prepared to let him escape unscathed.
Meanwhile, Erica engages in a meeting with Fred, delving into the intricacies of Dylan's Indie contract. Simultaneously, Kevin and Ted confront Lester about the discrepancies in the bank records. Lester, cornered, confesses to embezzling funds after discovering Simon's unauthorized transfer of half a million dollars from production into his personal accounts. He further corrects his earlier narrative, stating that Simon didn't lose his temper on the night of his demise, contrary to his initial claims. Instead, Lester confronted Simon with his suspicions, prompting Simon to lose control. Lester insists that he's been gradually returning the stolen money.
Elsewhere, Dylan visits Rick to inform him of her decision to stay with Erica. As she prepares to leave, Rick requests her input on a script rewrite, hinting at a fresh perspective he might have adopted.
Flashing back to 2010, a tense exchange unfolds between Ted and Samantha. Ted's manipulation of her client to trap Jimmy into confessing his guilt incites Samantha's wrath. She lambasts him, drawing parallels between his actions and his father's character. Confronted with his mistakes, Ted acknowledges his wrongdoings and vows never to repeat them.
Kevin verifies Lester's repayment of the embezzled funds, as promised. Ted, however, cautions that this new prosecutor might not look kindly on their leniency. They agree to confront that challenge head-on when the time comes.
Rick makes his way to Erica, bringing the thrilling news that he's secured Dylan the elusive deal she'd been yearning for – the opportunity to work with both Warner Brothers and Indie films. With that settled, Rick shifts his focus to Stuart, informing him that far from poaching Dylan, he cleverly maneuvered Erica into signing a waiver, stipulating that Dylan would be his if he emerged victorious in a head-to-head showdown.
Later, Ted discovers Erica brooding on the top floor, her spirits crushed by her defeat and subsequent loss of Dylan to Rick. She confesses, her voice tinged with regret, that she was lured into signing that waiver and ultimately fell short in the competition. Ted, however, reassures her, preferring to witness her embrace a challenge and fall, rather than seeing her retreat in fear.
Erica confides in Leah, lamenting that if only she had listened to Leah initially, they might have never lost Dylan as their client. Leah, too, acknowledges that Erica's lack of enthusiasm for movies or TV hindered her judgment in assessing script quality. This shared realization sparks a mutual learning agreement – Erica will tutor Leah in her area of expertise if Leah enlightens her about the world of cinema and television.
Stuart convenes with Erica to discuss Rick's latest acquisition, subtly coaxing her into announcing his appointment as the new head of entertainment. She acquiesces, further expressing her support for him against Ted. As Stuart departs, he expresses his gratitude for her stance.
Returning to his office, Ted is met by Smith, who drops a bombshell – Simon has been carrying on an affair with Lester's wife. On her exit, Smith encounters Amanda, and can't resist probing if she's still haunted by the loss of her client. Amanda responds starkly, revealing that she, in a way, was instrumental in his downfall. The episode concludes with Smith warning Amanda to stay away from the Lester case, to which Amanda defiantly replies that if Ted ever calls for her assistance, she'll come running without hesitation.
