Edna (Andrea Menard) and Frank Cranebear (Tom Jackson) diligently prepare the shop for Sully's return, and when Edna confronts Frank about his decision to cancel their vacation, her anger still lingers. Frank persists in arguing that he was the one mistreated, prompting Edna to retaliate by using his own advice against him—pointing out that nothing will change unless actions are taken.

As Sully's discharge date draws nearer, his agitation escalates. Lola Gunderson (Amalia Williamson) swiftly confronts him on his behavior before shifting her focus to Cal. When Sully brushes off Lola's concerns, Cal attempts to delve into Maggie's curt demeanor towards him earlier. To Cal's astonishment, Maggie isn't the only one harboring issues with his departure. Sully even goes so far as to claim that Maggie never fully committed to the move. This eventually prompts Cal to inquire about the letter he left, which seems to have gone missing.

Elsewhere, Sydney Shandon (Lindura) and Rafe Vadas (Dakota Taylor) continue to tread carefully around each other until Sydney receives a call from Rob Shandon (Reid Price), urging them to resolve their differences. Despite Rob's immediate apology for hiring Clover (Jansyn Blake) without consulting Sydney, she remains unyielding in her stance, refusing to easily forgive and forget.

Maggie seeks counsel from Andrew Matthews, portrayed by Allan Hawco, regarding Dr. Rabney's persistent demand for additional tests for her ailing father. Kaleb stands by her side, not only offering moral support but also imparting the precise words she needs to hear, reassuring her to trust and heed her instincts. Sully's unease escalates to such a degree that he finds himself deeply concerned and confides in Frank about it during his visit. Initially, Frank tries to brush it off lightheartedly, but then subtlysteers the conversation towards the wisdom of cleansing one's soul before tackling external turmoil, leaving Sully to ponder on this as he exits to reunite with Edna.

As Maggie embarks on a jog, Lola returns home to find Cal's letter awaiting her. At the firehouse, Connie Boyle, played by Lauren Hammersly, confronts Rafe for his tardiness, which segues into a dialogue about her contemplating a return to the dating scene. Rafe suggests online dating and even volunteers to assist with crafting a profile, but Connie appears utterly uninterested.

Sully seems pleased to meet his new roommate, Mr. Anderson, whereas Maggie visits Frank in quest of answers about her past. Though Frank falls short of providing the elucidations she seeks, his confession about similarly abandoning Sully to visit Alberta brings her a semblance of solace.

Soon, Rob comes to the realization that hiring Clover might have been a misstep. Even Cal, who is busy fixing an electrical outlet nearby, notices Clover's lack of motivation. The two soon engage in a brief exchange, sharing the ironies of their respective predicaments concerning Syndery and Maggie.

She denies having feelings for Cal, though Sydney perceives the truth behind her words.

Meanwhile, Connie is enthralled by Jackson Canaday's (T Thomason) excitement as he regales her with tales of semesters abroad and internship programs during their campus tour. Tom Canaday (Hugh Thompson) steps in after Connie reminds Jackson of his need for rest and recuperation. Tom attempts to soften the blow of their divorce becoming official by jesting about their newfound single status.

Sully's frustration resurfaces, seemingly directed at the staff's neglect towards Mr. Anderson. His irritation intensifies when he discovers that Mr. Anderson has no family to look after him.

When Cal confronts Maggie at last, the conversation unfolds in an unexpected manner for both. Maggie learns that Cal's departure was solely to scatter Lynne Baster Jones's (Laura Vandervoort) ashes, a task he had sworn to keep secret. Even after this revelation, she informs him of her decision to accept a new job offer in Boston and her efforts to reconcile with Andrew.

Later that day, Maggie sought solace, perhaps even wisdom, from Phoebe Lancaster (Lynda Boyd). Though Phoebe inquired about Sully and expressed hopes for his swift recuperation, it wasn't long before Maggie discerned that the conversation was destined to steer into more formal territories. This became even more evident when Walter (Peter Outerbridge) intervened, urging her to consider applying for a novel research endeavor helmed by Dr. Lewis Callaghan (Rhys Bevan-John).

Meanwhile, Cal sought solace in a different manner, pounding the weights alongside Rafe at the Firehouse gym. Their brief encounter was fleeting, yet Rafe introduced an intriguing possibility: Cal joining the search and rescue squad. As Sully's release date loomed, Edna's anxieties seemed to escalate, whereas Frank merely rejoiced at the prospect of Sully reconnecting with nature. Soon, their attention was diverted by two newcomers, who introduced themselves as Glenn Perry (Dean Armstrong) and George (Lewis Hodgson).

Sully's frustration mounted as he miserably failed a memory test orchestrated by Maggie. Their situation escalated into a heated exchange when Lola voiced her apprehension that Maggie was pushing him too far. In an attempt to alleviate the tension, Mr. Anderson remarked that Sully was fortunate to have two lovely daughters taking care of him. Maggie, however, was swift to correct him, albeit less gracefully, pointing out that Lola was not his daughter. Sully later confessed to Lola that he regarded her as a daughter.

Upon visiting Dr. Rabney at Sully's behest to delve deeper into Mr. Anderson's surgery, Maggie learned that Sully suffered from Alzheimer's disease. The episode culminated in a dramatic scene where Sully collapsed in the hospital hallway, driven by his own quest for answers regarding Mr. Anderson's surgical procedure.
