Sullivan’s Crossing – Season 3 Episode 5 1

Upon hearing about Sully's day off, Frank (Tom Jackson) and Edna Cranebear (Andrea Menard) express concern that he might be relapsed into drinking. Maggie doubts it but Frank decides to pay him a visit regardless. Since he's stepping out, Edna tasks him with stopping by the bank and grocery store. After Frank leaves, Edna broaches the subject of Cal Jones (Chad Michael Murray) with Maggie. Maggie shares how Cal has forgiven his father. Edna then wonders aloud when Maggie might find it in her heart to forgive Walter (Peter Outerbridge). Maggie remains silent and rushes off.

Sydney Shandon (Lindura) attempts to help Rafe Vadas (Dakota Taylor) unwind, considering it's his day off, but he seems unable to relax. Instead, he abruptly dashes off to inspect Cal's Jeep.

Cal swings by The Outpost to pick up some motor oil. While there, he bumps into Maggie, and they exchange brief pleasantries about his parents' arrival at the Grand Canyon and their upcoming donkey ride. He also mentions Rafe's promise to come by and assist him with his truck. Following their chat, he announces his intentions to head over to the lodge to lend a hand to Rob Shandon (Reid Price).

Frank pays Sully a visit, inviting him to attend a meeting later. Sully appreciates the gesture but declines, stating he's in good shape. Frank then extends an invitation to join him at the grocery store, which Sully turns down, claiming he's in the midst of something important.

Sydney engages Maggie in a conversation about Rafe and the changes they've noticed in him. Maggie attributes his behavior to working excessive hours. Sydney, however, isn't so convinced.

As Rafe tinkered with Cal's vehicle, he opened up to Cal about the looming possibility of being fired by Cooper (Steve Lund). Cal, drawing from personal experience, recounted his own nerve-wracking encounter with his father and encouraged Rafe to confront Cooper head-on. Taking Cal's advice to heart, Rafe resolved to address the issue with Cooper.

Meanwhile, Helen (Kate Vernon) arrived at Sully's place for a lunch date that soon veered into a poignant discussion about divorce and shared memories. As the conversation deepened, Helen reached for a bottle of alcohol to ease the tension.

Maggie, on the other hand, dropped by the lodge to deliver lunch to Rob. Their chat about the restaurant's design led to Sydney being tasked with the exciting role of interior decorator. Unbeknownst to them, Rafe was making his way to the station to clear the air with Cooper. He declared defiantly that Connie Boyle (Lauren Hammersley) had never favored him and that he wouldn't let Cooper force him out. Cooper, surprised by Rafe's stance, assured him that he wasn't seeking to dismiss him and had granted him time off believing it was what Rafe desired.

Cal picked Rob up from the lodge for a trip to the hardware store, while Maggie and Frank headed back to The Outpost. Frank shared his concerns about Sully potentially letting him go. At the store, Cal and Rob unexpectedly encountered Jane (Cindy Sampson). After catching up on old times, Rob found himself leaving the store with her in tow.

Returning home, Maggie stumbled upon an empty wine bottle, prompting her to search for Sully. Instead, she found him in the bedroom with Helen, who quickly clarified that the bottle belonged to her. Maggie gracefully excused herself from the awkward situation. By the time she reached The Outpost to relay the encounter, Lola Gunderson (Amalia Williamson) had already arrived.

Elsewhere, Rob and Jane enjoyed a cozy coffee date, where they swapped stories about their children and past relationships. Jane also inquired about Rob's new diner, prompting him to promise her a grand tour.

While tidying up the cozy cabins, Maggie and Lola indulged in some gossipy chatter about Frank, with Lola revealing her recent run-in at the bar with Jacob Cranebear (Joel Oulette). She mentioned how he had phoned her a couple of times, but she saw little point in pursuing anything with him since his stay was but a fleeting summer fling. In return, Maggie shared her own summer romance with Liam, sparking a bit of camaraderie between them.

Eagerly, Sydney presented her designs to Rafe upon his return, only to be met with a lukewarm response. He cited the need for some solitude, dashing her enthusiasm.

Post their cabin cleaning duties, Maggie and Lola crossed paths with Helen. Lola took a discreet exit, leaving Helen to apologize for the ill-timed wine gesture. Maggie gracefully accepted her apology, noting how quick judgments could be misleading. Their reconciliation was abruptly interrupted by Cal’s arrival in his sleek new sports car.

Maggie and Cal embarked on a thrilling ride in his flashy new vehicle, with her playfully questioning the suitability of such a luxury ride in a rustic campground setting. Elsewhere, Jacob bumped into Lola at The Outpost, inquiring about her unreturned calls. She breezily dismissed it, saying she had been preoccupied with her young charges at work. Edna then dispatched them on a joint errand to fetch ice, adding a touch of normalcy to their interactions.

Meanwhile, Sydney and Rafe clashed over his perpetual absence and apparent disinterest in her endeavors. On the brink of packing her bags and leaving, he intercepted her, confessing the turmoil at the fire station and acknowledging his own faults. Their heartfelt reconciliation culminated in an embrace, mending the rift between them.

Upon dropping Maggie off at The Outpost, Cal made a bold proposition, asking her to share his space. While she admitted it sounded tempting, she had recently moved in with Sully. His persistence led her to open up about her living arrangement with Sully and Helen, painting a picture of intertwined lives and emerging bonds.

Sully hands Helen her missing earring, his eyes filled with hope as he invites her to share an outing with him the next day. Helen, mindful of not misleading him or compromising his hard-earned sobriety, expresses her hesitance. Sully reassures her, insisting that she needn't fret about his well-being, yet admits he hasn't felt such a connection with anyone in years. He implores her to embrace the present moment with him, and to her surprise, she finds herself agreeing.

After guiding Jane through a captivating tour of the restaurant, Rob bids her farewell with a gentle request for permission to call her. Jane nods in consent, her smile hinting at potential futures. Just then, Cal arrives in his sleek new sports car, sharing with Rob the disappointment of Maggie's refusal to move in with him.

Returning to The Outpost, Sully intends to confide in Maggie about his feelings for Helen, but is interrupted before he can utter a word. Frank enters, accompanied by Mr. Brenner from the Health Department, who informs Sully of a complaint and the need to inspect the new restaurant he plans to open.

Elsewhere, Jacob and Lola's bond deepens during a casual stroll to get ice. Lola opens up about a childhood accident that sparked her passion for becoming a social worker. In return, Jacob shares his own story of being diagnosed with diabetes and the bullying that followed. Touched by his vulnerability, Lola asks if she can accompany him the next day to search for lichen.

Back at the restaurant, Sully tries to convince Maggie to cease worrying about him and embrace her own life journey. Maggie, in turn, reveals Cal's proposal for them to live together. The conversation is abruptly halted by the inspector's announcement that the premises have passed the inspection. Seizing the moment, Sully declares that modern constructions lack the character of the past, dramatically slamming an exposed 2x4. The wood crumbles beneath his force, leaving the inspector to inform them that they have two weeks to bring the place up to code, as the episode concludes on a note of unexpected chaos.
