Episode 2 of Sunny commences with a glimpse into Masa's workplace, ImaTech, where employees are relentlessly monitored by pacing robotic overseers. Suddenly, one worker rushes out of the room, answering a call that alerts of a security breach on level 5. The narrative then rewinds to a past encounter between Suzie and Masa. As Suzie peruses the vending machine for a snack, Masa offers her some sage advice. But just as she steps up to the counter, Masa arrives and sits beside her, noticing her choice of extra-spicy fare. He slyly uses this as an excuse to ask for a drink.

Sunny – Season 1 Episode 2 1

The episode further delves into Suzie's past through flashbacks. She came to Japan, drawn by its cuisine and culture, and an intriguing article about Hikikomori—a phenomenon of complete societal withdrawal and the pursuit of solitude. It sounded ideal to her, and interestingly, Masa had been living this way for the past three years. However, he dismisses her comprehension of loneliness, guarding his notebook jealously, claiming it contains mere "sketches for fun."

Returning to the present, Suzie confronts Sunny with direct questions, eager to uncover Masa's motives. But Sunny remains clueless, frustrating Suzie with her lack of answers. As it turns out, Suzie's first memory is her encounter with Sunny, so she has no inkling of Masa's possible sinister intentions.

Determined to uncover the truth, Suzie takes Sunny to an engineer who marvels at the robot's sophistication. He reveals that Sunny's files are locked and have been consistently updated by an unknown party. Suzie resolves to hack into Sunny, knowing there's a guide to aid her. The engineer is agitated and urges them to leave, but his assistant chases after them with a guide—apparently, this is the infamous Dark Manual.

Despite the obscurity of the creator, it is undeniable that whoever it was possessed exceptional brilliance, employing a unique sigil as their insignia. This emblem seemingly triggers a wave of recollection in Suzie, drawing her closer to Masa's mystery. Masa, however, remains elusive, and Suzie finds herself at Masa's mother's doorstep, seeking clues about the enigmatic sigil. Inside, a party is in full swing, seemingly orchestrated by Hamako, but the picture adorned with the sigil hangs conspicuously absent. Masa's mother holds her cards close, her hasty disposal of the photograph ringing with suspicion. She's definitely harboring something.

Back at home, Suzie and Sunny engage in a lively exchange, the robot learning from Suzie's wit and returning it in kind. Suzie persists in her search through Masa's study, desperately seeking the journal that might connect the dots. As she leans against the desk, she highlights Masa's virtues, mentioning his stellar fatherly nature. Sunny chimes in, reasoning that if Masa were hiding something, it wouldn't be in his home; they must delve into his workplace.

The following day, Suzie and Sunny arrive at Imatech, but a mysterious barrier halts the robot's progress, its incessant "Division 5 denied" echoing throughout the facility. Suzie convinces Yuki to grant her access to Division 5, but upon arrival, she finds the rooms shrouded in darkness. This coincides with the opening scene, where an employee hurries towards Division 5.

As Suzie enters the yellow room, she notices the floor scrubbed clean, an attempt to erase traces of blood. She hastily rushes out, seeking refuge under a desk. Sunny comes to her aid, appearing on the observatory deck, entertaining the workers with exercise routines through VR headsets, allowing Suzie to slip away unnoticed.

Suzie escapes and the duo returns home. However, the airline's arrival with Masa's shoes brings grim tidings for Suzie. The shoes seem to suggest Masa's demise, but without a body, the conclusion remains uncertain.

Meanwhile, the robot returns to its master, who has been surreptitiously observing Suzie. Unable to decipher Sunny's code, it tricks the robot into believing it's from the airline. As the night draws to a close, Suzie encourages Sunny to join her in bed, mimicking Masa's embrace.

As the episode fades out, revelations surface that Masa concealed the murder, and it seems Sunny might be entangled in its web. The robot awakens from a seemingly fragmented dream, its memory now a jumbled puzzle.
