Episode 4 of Season 3 of Sweet Tooth opens with a scene on the Whale Song, where Captain Stafford briefs the survivors who have made their way onto the ship. He offers them a glimmer of hope, promising that a new life awaits them… in Canada. For now, they are safe, but the question remains: for how long?

As the celebrations and revelry erupt on board, Gus, Singh, and Jepp finally arrive at the ship. They leap onto the deck, where the music still echoes but the place is deserted. Unfortunately, their makeshift boat succumbs to the waves, leaving them with no choice but to stay put. The engines are silent, the ship is in disarray, and there's no sign of the cabin crew.

Sweet Tooth – Season 3 Episode 4 1

Jepp stumbles upon evidence of the Sick on the ship - the purple flowers that indicate its presence. He's uncertain if the contagion is contained or if it's spreading unchecked. His panic mounts as Singh hints that the Big Man might be infected as well. In a hasty decision, Gus locks Singh and Jepp inside the engine room (or what appears to be the engine room) and resolves to search for the bridge himself. Since he's immune to the Sick, he vows to uncover what's going on. Before leaving, he sternly warns the pair not to harm each other in his absence.

Up at the bridge, Gus stumbles upon a radio and manages to contact someone named Darwin. It turns out that Darwin is back in his cabin, having indulged in a drunken stupor. He seems to be unharmed, but the revelation that everyone else is dead chills Gus to the bone. He reveals his identity as a hybrid stowaway, choosing not to mention Jepp or Singh, perhaps for their own safety.

Meanwhile, Becky offered a heartfelt apology to Rosie for the fateful incident involving her son, confessing her ignorance about his hybrid nature. Rosie, overwhelmed by grief, was poised to exact vengeance, but Zhang's timely arrival at the compound intervened. Recognizing Becky's potential as a source of information, Zhang proposed using her as a bargaining chip. As Zhang prepared for the interrogation, she sternly advised Rosie to take care of her son amidst the chaos. However, the situation remained tense as Wendy hovered in the background, a wildcard ready to alter the course of events.

Zhang was confident that Becky would reveal what she knew, given her past connections with the Animal Army. She dangled the prospect of a new family before Becky, emphasizing the bond of blood, declaring that "blood is thicker than water." But Becky saw through Zhang's facade and called her out, revealing her naivety. Zhang's pleasant demeanor hardened, and she demanded that Becky reconsider her options, warning her that cooperation would be painless, but resistance would be costly.

When Becky stubbornly refused again, it seemed certain that she would be subjected to torture. But just then, Jordan emerged from the shadows, determined to rescue her. He had been secretly plotting his escape from Zhang's group, sneaking out through a back exit. Unfortunately, Zhang caught them in the act, revealing that Jordan had been playing her all along. His betrayal was doubly devastating as he revealed crucial information about Gus's journey to Alaska, painting a bleak picture of a frozen wasteland as their only destination.

Back on the ship, Singh's fears for Jepp's survival grew with each passing moment. Whether it was the Sickness or the lingering wounds of war, Jepp's condition was deteriorating rapidly. As tensions flared between them, Singh revealed a surprising connection, acknowledging that he had encountered Jepp ten years ago in Crescent City. This revelation provided a poignant link between their past and present, drawing them closer together in their shared struggle.

As they spoke, Gus pored over the ship's log, searching for a way to help Darwin. He realized that the purple flowers might purge the Sick from the ship if thrown overboard. But his discovery of the passengers' remains threw him into a crisis of confidence. He wasn't sure if he had the courage to carry out such a grueling task, and he radioed Darwin to confess his doubts, mentioning Jepp and his fear of losing him. However, Gus found the strength to honor the memory of the passengers and bravely cast the Sick overboard, one by one, until the ship was finally cleared of its deadly infestation.

It took Darwin the entire night, but finally, after disposing of the unwanted passengers overboard, he emerged and consented to revive the engine for them. With his trusty key, he managed to restart the boat, bringing it back to life once again. However, it was evident that Darwin was not in his best health, as his trembling hand betrayed his illness.

Knowing his fate, Darwin made the ultimate sacrifice. He left a heartfelt note for Gus, expressing his gratitude for all that had been done. He emphasized his unwavering determination to prevent the Sick from escaping the ship. With a course set for Northern Alaska, they were expected to arrive within two days.

Meanwhile, Zhang made the decision to bring Becky along on their journey to Alaska. This left Rosie with a difficult choice - to leave her son behind. In a moment of mercy, she took his life, an act that shattered her emotionally. She struggled to contain her grief as she prepared for their departure.

Amidst all the commotion, nobody noticed the sneaky figure of Wendy, who had covertly boarded the plane. As the episode drew to a close, our attention returned to Gus on the boat. Just before Jepp and Gus shared a heartfelt conversation (following Singh's test revealing Jepp's freedom from the Sick), the radio crackled to life. It was Siana, informing them that they were indeed on their way to Alaska and closing in on their destination.
