The second episode of "The Baxters" kicks off with Kari confiding in her mother, her voice resolute, insisting that despite all the advice and opinions swirling around her, she refuses to grant Tim a divorce. She also reveals that Ashley has a penchant for meddling, and earlier that day, she had cruelly suggested that Kari's marriage to Tim was merely a reaction to make Ryan, Tim's former lover, jealous.
As the narrative unfolds, Tim crosses paths with Dirk, who, with a subtle hint, implies to Tim that his actions with Angela, a student, teeter on the edge of impropriety. It's conceivable that Dirk harbors a soft corner for Angela, prompting him to tattle on Tim in the hope that the revelation of Tim's infidelity will lead to a breakup between Tim and Angela. Ironically, Dirk's plan backfires spectacularly, resulting in Tim deciding to leave Kari instead.
Meanwhile, back at the Baxter residence, Luke joins the chorus, urging Kari to part ways with Tim. Kari, however, digs her heels in, citing religion as her reason not to divorce. Luc counters by reminding her that Tim has committed adultery, arguing that morally, Kari is not only justified but also obligated to leave her unfaithful husband who is entangled with his student.
On another front, Angela pressures Tim to send the divorce papers to Kari at the earliest. Fearful that Tim might change his mind, Angela pleads for him to demonstrate his commitment to their relationship by accompanying her to the lawyer's office to finalize the paperwork. Tim, further solidifying his resolve, also suggests they relocate to a new apartment together.
Elsewhere, Kari seeks solace at the church, organizing a support group with her family to share their collective troubles. She requests everyone's prayers, hoping that God will mend her crumbling marriage, as she is far from ready to surrender. When momentarily alone, Ryan extends an olive branch, telling Kari she can confide in him anytime, invoking their shared past.
Tim eventually ventures to Kari's house to hand over the divorce papers but finds it empty. Realizing where Kari might be, he heads to the Baxter's home, determined to confront her one last time.
