Episode 1 of Season 1 of "The Bondsman" introduces Hub, our intrepid protagonist, as he ventures out under the cover of darkness to apprehend Jeb Tucker. Little does he know, this mission is a treacherous trap set by the Earle brothers, who, without mercy, slit his throat and consigned him to an untimely grave within the confines of a wall.
The following morning, an inexplicable phenomenon occurs—Hub miraculously reawakens, his wounds beginning to mend at a remarkable pace. With a burst of strength born from the unknown, he breaks free from his macabre tomb and, as he stumbles forth, encounters Tater, dispatched by the Earle brothers to torch the premises. Tater's eyes widen in astonishment upon beholding Hub, whom they had believed to be deceased.
Hub, acting swiftly, confines Tater in the trunk of his car and departs, leaving the stunned accomplice behind. Returning to his abode, he discovers his wounds have miraculously vanished, leaving no trace of the night's ordeal. Though awestruck by this phenomenon, Hub's mind remains steadfastly focused on revenge—reclaiming justice from the Earle brothers, who had also stolen his truck, a vehicle technically belonging to his mother, Kitty.
Kitty, oblivious to her son's brush with death, places pressure on Hub to mend fences with his ex, Maryanne, for the sake of their son, Cade. Additionally, she engages in a delicate dance with the local pastor, earnestly seeking his forgiveness and a reinstatement into the church's fold.
The pastor leans toward granting his assent, albeit contingent upon Hub's cessation of arresting skippers during church services. As Hub relates to his mother that the Earle brothers have appropriated her vehicle, she speculates that perhaps Lucky was behind the hire. Concurrently, Hub is besieged by persistent calls from a firm named Pot O’ Gold, which he disregards, assuming them to be merely telemarketing nuisance.
Determined, Hub forges an arrest warrant for Lucky and sets off to a local club to confront him. Upon arrival, he discovers that Lucky is now entangled in a relationship with Maryanne and cohabiting with their son, rendering Hub's intended arrest awkward and delicate in their presence. Maryanne, an aspiring country singer yearning for her big break, implores Hub to sign a document allowing her to take Chad out of state for her tour. Hub attempts to steer the conversation towards Lucky, but Maryanne remains unreceptive.
After his failed attempt to reason with Maryanne, Hub notices Lucky's abrupt departure. Chad reveals that Lucky has headed to a poker game hosted by the Earle brothers. This time, Hub's journey to the Earle brothers' abode is tempered with caution. Along the way, he encounters Pastor Ron, whose appearance is eerie, marked by hollow, red-rimmed eyes.
Hub springs a surprise attack on the Earle brothers, successfully overpowering the trio. He strikes a bargain, promising their lives in exchange for texting Lucky and setting him up. However, it is not Lucky who appears but a possessed Pastor Ron, who brutally slays the Earle brothers. Narrowly escaping with his life, Hub is forced to abandon his vehicle.
Upon arriving home, he is greeted by a mysterious woman, purportedly from the realm of Pot O’Gold. She insists that a discussion about his orientation is imperative and proceeds to unveil the extraordinary tale of Hub's demise and miraculous revival. Kitty, initially appalled by such heresy, nevertheless retains an open mind and listens intently to the woman's words. The enigmatic visitor then discloses to Hub that his newfound employment entails hunting demons for the devil himself, a deal that granted him a second chance at life.
