Imbued with the festive cheer of Christmas, The Buccaneers finds itself ensconced in a season of exhilarating delight and joyous revelry. However, Episode 6 strays from this melodic symphony of festivity, unveiling instead a narrative woven amidst the breathtaking, picturesque lakeside mansion of Scotland. As the girls, accompanied by Theo and Richard, frolic and play amidst the snowy landscape, an eerie ambiance begins to permeate the indoors. Within, Seadown immerses Jinny in a bathtub, shrouded in an air of mystery – leaving one to ponder whether she is unwell or merely enveloped by the ominous aura of his presence. His intentions are unmistakably clear: to isolate her from Nan and her circle of cherished friends.

The Buccaneers – Season 1 Episode 6 1

Turning our focus to Nan, her heart remains ensnared in a web of confusion over her sentiments for Guy, who has arrived with Jean, both seemingly entangled in a mutual attraction. Theo, however, interrupts their tender tension by announcing Guy as his best man, much to everyone's surprise. Mabel, eager to retain her foothold in England, pleadingly urges Lizzy to embark on the journey of matrimony – or at least initiate the courting rituals. Yet, Lizzy remains unenthusiastic about rushing into the fray.

A profound discussion blossoms between the Duchess and Nan, touching upon Theo's infatuation with Nan. The Duke's love for her is plain as day, yet the Duchess cautions Nan about his reclusive nature. Theo prefers the solace of his thoughts and the companionship of Nan, cherishing his moments of introspection in their shared silence.

Mabel seeks forgiveness from Honoria for her impetuous behavior at the boathouse, which Honoria receives warmly. Touched by a thoughtful gift, Honoria ventures into Conchita's room, seeking advice on how to unwind her guarded demeanor.

In a playful moment, Lizzy slips on the icy snow, and Seadown swiftly lifts her into his arms, carrying her intimately to her chamber without prompting. As Lizzy's tears stream down, Seadown issues a stark warning against stirring up any drama. Jinny, trailing behind him, engages in a heartfelt conversation with Lizzy once he departs. Lizzy finally unburdens herself about the harrowing incident at Runnymede. Initially startled, Jinny's tone softens, and she unexpectedly finds herself empathizing with Seadown. Jinny's response, though somewhat petty, reveals her struggle to reconcile her evolving loyalty to her husband within this tangled web of emotions.

In a bid to stay in England, Mabel cunningly orchestrates a scene where she prompts Miles to propose to her amidst their peers, all while Honoria stands bewildered, even as Mabel subtly tries to convey the real motive behind this charade. Meanwhile, in the reading room, Nan and Guy encounter each other briefly, their conversation delving into their mutual affections. Guy abandons his previous resolve to marry into wealth, explaining that his entire perspective shifted upon meeting Nan. However, as he utters Jean's name, Nan's demeanor darkens, and she mocks him, hinting that she needs to be with Theo.

Jinny attempts to confront Seadown, but he cleverly reverses the situation, forcing her to chase after him and apologize, a complete reversal of expected roles. This gentleman is undeniably adept at manipulation. He dares Jinny to "prove" her love for him, though the method remains obscure.

The following morning, Governess Testvalley makes her departure from the mansion, having accepted a new position in Cornwall. Richard, perplexed, trails her to her carriage. This turn of events unfolds after Honoria catches Testvalley eavesdropping on Richard and Conchita's conversation outside their chamber. She subtly suggests to Testvalley that Richard has chosen his own path of freedom, hinting that she should do the same. Their past affair is heavily implied.

Before breakfast is served, the Duchess summarily orders Nan to leave the premises. Nan's world crumbles as the Duchess reveals her knowledge of her father's "misdemeanor." Nan is torn between who could have betrayed her, initially suspecting Guy but later settling on Jinny, who herself looks utterly perplexed. The truth emerges: Seadown approached the Duchess with this information to further alienate Jinny and sow discord between her and Nan.

In a moment of desperation, right before her departure and amidst the bustling breakfast scene, Nan boldly confesses the truth to Theo in front of everyone. She apologizes and asserts her lack of shame. Theo interrupts her with a kiss, signaling that this revelation does not alter his decision to marry her. However, the Duchess's reaction makes it evident that their path will not be an easy one.
