The opening episode of "The Death of Bunny Munro" dives into the world of a traveling salesman, Bunny Munro, who overlooks a burning pier from his hotel room as he receives a call from his wife, Libby. Her voice is filled with distress, pleading for him to come home. Despite her pleas, Bunny dismisses her concerns with a shrug, suggesting she turn off the TV and ignore the rantings about a "Horned Killer" dressed as a devil up north. He tries to reassure her, but the exasperation in his voice is palpable.

Libby is on antidepressants, and Bunny washes his hands of any responsibility for her well-being. After the call ends, he turns his attention to an escort, introducing himself as "Bunny Munroe" with a flourish.

The next morning, we see more of Bunny's job, and he's certainly a charmer. He interweaves his showmanship with his suave charisma to pull women in. Responsibility is a foreign concept to him.

Back home, we see that Bunny has a son, Bunny Junior, and he casually reveals that Libby has locked herself in her room. When Bunny steps inside, he finds Libby dead, having hanged herself with a cord. The shock sends Bunny reeling.

At the funeral, some in the audience scoff at the notion of Bunny being a devoted husband. He actually walks out halfway through the service, and we assume he's going for a smoke. In reality, he's a sex addict and heads into the public toilets to masturbate. You see, inside the church, Bunny was too fixated on a painting of a breastfeeding mother to concentrate, hence why he left.

Libby's mother has no love lost for Bunny and refuses to give him any advice or help looking after Bunny Junior. In the end, Bunny belittles Libby's parents and decides to hit the road with his son. Well, he does after the awkward wake anyway. Drugs and alcohol are spread out, and a big party erupts, while Bunny Junior is left isolated and alone in his room.

Alone in his room, Bunny Junior winds up seeing his mom in a vision and they talk about his encyclopedia, a gift he's been cradling since the funeral. It was something Libby bought for him and she encourages him to get some rest.

In the adjacent room, Bunny lays bare his upbringing, confessing that his father was his sole nurturer and educator. He believes that all Junior needs is to witness the same guidance, little realizing that Bunny himself was devoid of his father's affection during his childhood. Moreover, Bunny's loyalty is questionable, as evidenced by his betrayal of his best friend, Poodle, and his indiscretion with Poodle's girlfriend.

As dawn breaks, the Social Services team arrives at Bunny's abode. The scene is a chaotic mess, with drugs, alcohol, and discarded food littering the space. However, the most pressing concern revolves around Junior's absence from school – a three-month hiatus that necessitates an investigation into his living environment's safety.

At the most inopportune moment, Poodle's girlfriend emerges from his bedroom, utterly裸露着。 It's a spectacle that leaves little to the imagination, and Bunny realizes that his days might be numbered. Grasping Junior tightly, he scurries downstairs and the two of them make a hasty escape together.
