Episode 2 kicks off with Theo Richter (Richard Flood), sprawled at the base of the hill, submerged in an unconscious dream that paints a serene afternoon with Aileen Ryan (Carolyn Bracken). She playfully teases him, jesting about their peculiar choice of rendezvous—a graveyard. Meanwhile, Ken Armstrong (Matt Whelan) finds himself the target of prison harassment over his actions towards Sinead Martin (Rachel Morgan). He bears the brunt of it with a forced nonchalance, but a palpable fear grips him when Frank Pastors (Owen Black) confronts him, probing into his knowledge of the Goatman case. Ken concedes, acknowledging he shared details with the lead investigator. After intimidating Ken, Frank retrieves a concealed cell phone and sends a threatening text, asserting his awareness of their machinations and vowing not to be disregarded.

The Gone – Season 2 Episode 2 1

Detective Sergeant Gwenda (Miriama Smith) is in deep conversation with Sergeant Bruce Harris (Scott Wills), outlining her plans to relocate to town, when Diana Huia (Acushla-Tara Kupe) interrupts with Frank's prison visitor list. Besides Aileen, Linda Pastors (Rachel Bock) stands out as the sole visitor he's had in two years. As they prepare to question Linda's whereabouts, Sharyn (Renee Sheridan), who initially offers the same alibi with polite demeanor, grows suspicious of Diana's disbelief. In parallel, Richter stumbles upon and begins to rummage through an abandoned, wrecked vehicle, his discovery pure happenstance.

Auntie Wiki (Vanessa Rare), in town visiting local establishments, including the hair salon owned by Sarah Walden, carries missing posters of Aileen. Her peaceful visit takes an unexpected turn when Gwenda approaches her with intentions to rent her grandmother's house. Wiki initially responds with polite refusal, but Gwenda persists, probing until Wiki brings up historical disputes between their tribes. Though the specifics remain unspoken, the revelation strikes deep, causing Wiki to abruptly withdraw without giving Gwenda an answer, leaving the air heavy with unspoken tensions.

The relationship between Sinead and Hannah Martin (Michelle Fairley) remains far from mended, particularly when Hannah attempts to offer advice regarding Sinead's court case. Sinead's abrupt exit takes her to a church, where her gaze falls upon Aileen's flyer and Ginge (Poroaki Merritt-McDonald). She cursorily inquires if he spent the night indoors, but he remains silent. Her attention then shifts to the adjacent graveyard, where Colin Friends (Latham Gaines) once took his own life. Ginge is disturbed when Sinead virtually mocks what he considers hallowed ground. To his astonishment, she proceeds to share an anecdote about her encounter with a banshee spirit.

Meanwhile, Richter returns to the search operation, sharing his findings from the wrecked vehicle with Diana and Gwenda. They decide to re-examine Aileen's car after Richter notes that the wrecked vehicle he discovered appeared staged. Upon closer inspection, they find a handgun, but it is the ringing phone Richter discovered that holds the most promise. Unfortunately, the phone's battery dies before anyone can answer it.

Just as the detectives hit a wall with the registration and tags of the wrecked vehicle, the prison's CEO calls with news about Linda's visits to Frank. However, the CEO insists on discussing the matter in person. As Diana heads out, Gwenda seeks Bruce's advice with Wiki, but he offers no helpful insights. The prison visit reveals that Linda was coerced by one of Frank's outside contacts to smuggle contraband during her visits. The CEO claims to have put an end to it but never identified the outside contact. Diana also learns that Ken has requested to speak with her, which she agrees to but treats him more like a suspect than an acquaintance. The brief meeting reveals little more than the fact that Ken is struggling with the death of Ronan Garvey (Simon Mead) and his time behind bars.

Concurrently, Michaela Armstrong (Alison Bruce) finds herself increasingly exasperated by KC Ross Maley's (Phil Brown) uninspired defense of Ken, ultimately culminating in her decision to terminate his services. As Diana returns to the precinct to brief the team, a call from the retrieved cellphone rings through, only to be abruptly disconnected upon Richter's introduction. Hardly had the silence settled when Bruce receives a call from George Anderson (Cameron Rhodes), vehemently inquiring about the detention of his client, Derry Fallon (Aaron Monaghan). This revelation catches the detectives off guard, as they do not have Derry in custody, a fact Richter promptly communicates to George. Upon realizing his mistake, George questions the possession of his client's phone. Richter, nonchalantly acknowledging the shared quest for answers, invites him to the station for further discussions.

With Ginge's assistance, Sinead progresses in her therapy journey by recording a poignant video in front of Valerie Armstrong’s (Ella Gilbert) residence, denouncing her for her part in Ronan’s demise. Meanwhile, Richter and his team swiftly identify Derry as an Irish gangster with a penchant for vintage firearms. Moments later, Anita Fallon/Anita Dalton (Clare Monnelly) bursts into the station, furious and unexpectedly finds herself in an interrogation room, being informed of her rights. Despite her earlier display of anger, Anita adopts a markedly different demeanor when Richter presents her with photos of Derry’s wrecked car and accuses him of abducting Aileen. Anita, acknowledging Derry’s involvement with Aileen but insisting their relationship had ended, finds herself in a precarious position. As the scene draws to a close, Richter seeks her assistance in unlocking Derry’s cellphone, to which she responds it is secured by fingerprints.

Auntie Wiki's diligent search efforts bear fruit when she discovers that Mason (Henry Rolleston) and Davinity (Kirimaia Noel) withheld information about a particular forest area due to Davinity’s friend’s illegal marijuana plot. Wiki not only compels Davinity to share this discovery with the detectives but also insists on escorting them there. Upon arriving at base camp, Diana performs Valeria’s routine bail check, which swiftly descends into chaos.

Anita’s predicament worsens when confronted by Sinead and Hannah while grocery shopping. Though she handles the encounter with composure, she breaks down emotionally upon returning to her car.

Davinity’s revelation about the forest guides the search party to an abandoned mine, where they uncover both Derry and Aileen. A gun lies discarded on the ground as the team approaches, yet it seems almost as though Derry was not the one holding it. His arrest ensues without incident, and Aileen remains eerily calm. No further explanations are forthcoming, as the episode concludes with an unidentified shooter taking aim at either Richter or Aileen, leaving a cliffhanger that lingers in the air.
