Episode 4 of "The Kollective" unfolds in Moscow, where the public wails in sorrow over the brutal murder of a prominent political journalist. The arrival of the police disrupts the peaceful vigil, and they forcibly disperse the mourners. Amidst the chaos, Anna, Sugalov's daughter, manages to slip away unnoticed.
Anna bumps into Sugalov, who frantically instructs her to silence her phone and follow him immediately. In a hurry, he commandeers a vehicle and speeds off.
Meanwhile, in London, Maya, Sergej, and the Kollective convene to strategize about Sugalov, who has pleaded for their assistance in seeking asylum in the UK. Maya suggests that Sergej and his organization, specializing in aiding asylum seekers, should take charge. However, Delia insists that she and Aaron should undertake the mission, as Sugalov has specifically requested to speak with them.
Sugalov unburdens himself to Anna about his clandestine work. He reveals that his identity has been exposed, putting him in grave danger, and those he once collaborated with are now after him, threatening to abduct Anna to gain leverage. Consequently, Sugalov intends to meet a contact who can assist them in crossing the border into Latvia.
Elsewhere, Aaron and Delia embark on a journey to a secluded cabin in the woods, the designated rendezvous point with Sugalov. They reluctantly power down their phones and leave them behind to evade tracking, while Etienne keeps vigil using the cabin's surrounding CCTV surveillance.
Concurrently, Sugalov and Anna arrive at the cabin just as Etienne is escorting his daughter to meet a friend for a project. On the television, Etienne catches a breaking news report: Lusamba's deputy, Moses Mbemba, has announced his candidacy for the presidency in Congo. Mbemba's policies stand in stark contrast to Lusamba's, notably advocating for the nationalization of the coltan mines.
Hence, the mining rights will be awarded to the bidder who offers the highest sum. Etienne reaches out to Lucas to keep him abreast of this development, and as he delves deeper into Mbemba's background, he discovers that the latter has a close associate in Amsterdam: Professor Jeremy Ashton. Meanwhile, back at the secluded cabin, Sugalov remains steadfast in his refusal to cooperate unless guaranteed a safe escape route. Aaron and Delia press him relentlessly to provide his testimony, yet he steadfastly declines.
In Nantes, Arielle and her companion had deceived Etienne about their academic pursuits, opting instead to spend their time at a shisha bar. There, Arielle catches the eye of Nadia, a girl from London who reveals she's on tour with a group of DJs and invites Arielle to join her for an outing the next day. Lucas, disguised as an inquisitive student researching rare materials for his thesis on electric cars, approaches Professor Ashton after his lecture. Intrigued, Ashton invites Lucas for a coffee.
At the cabin, Sugalov slips away to the sauna room, where he surreptitiously retrieves something concealed in the sole of his shoe. Delia enters the room, her voice laden with persuasion, trying to convince him to share his insights into Joshua's fate. However, Sugalov remains unyielding in his silence.
Elsewhere, Lucas's conversation with Ashton resumes, culminating in his inquisitive probe about Mbemba and their joint investigations into coltan. Initially, Ashton seems perturbed, but eventually, he succumbs to sharing his insights with Lucas. Ashton reveals that his relationship with Mbemba soured when he discovered Mbemba was consulting for private mining companies and collaborating with Russians and mercenaries. Their paths hadn't crossed for some time until they unexpectedly ran into each other at a conference, an encounter Lucas later stumbled upon online in the form of a picture. During the conference, Mbemba, fueled by alcohol, confidentially confessed to Ashton his ambition to run for president and cede control of the mines to the Russians.
Meanwhile, at the cabin, Sugalov sneaks something into Anna's jacket, his actions interrupted by Anna's phone conversation. He overhears her confess that she's kept her phone powered on since their arrival, unwittingly placing them all in peril. Sugalov sternly informs her that her neglect has compromised their location, as those pursuing him have traced her phone and are en route to the cabin. Anna expresses regret for not heeding Sugalov's advice, but the harm is already done, necessitating Sugalov to take immediate action.
As Aaron and Delia lounge in the living room, anticipating Sergej's arrival, the mercenaries storm the scene. Sugalov, anticipating their arrival, has rigged the sauna to explode upon being opened, injuring two of the intruders. Another mercenary speeds toward the cabin, reaching the door just as Aaron attempts to lock it. A fierce struggle ensues between Aaron and the mercenary over a gun, with the latter nearly pulling the trigger on Aaron before Sugalov intervenes. Sugalov hastily assists Aaron and Delia to the car, but they are relentlessly fired upon, making their escape perilous. Miraculously, the car skids to a halt near the mercenaries' boat moored on the riverbank.
Despite Sugalov's intention to stay and hold off the mercenaries, Anna and the others witness his ultimate sacrifice as he is fatally shot down.
Aaron, Delia, and Anna finally secure their safety and reunite with Sergej's team. Upon interrogation, Anna is destined for Riga, where she will seek political asylum. As she searches for some coins to quench her thirst at a vending machine, Anna stumbles upon Sugalov's flash drive, which she promptly hands over to Delia and Aaron before her departure.
Curiosity piqued, Delia and Aaron manage to borrow a computer to uncover the contents of the drive. To their astonishment, they discover a harrowing video depicting the murder of Joshua. The perpetrator, who choked the life out of him, is revealed to be the same ruthless individual who ended Sugalov's life and is now keeping a watchful eye on Etienne's daughter, Arielle.
