The Law According to Lidia Poet – Season 2 Episode 6 1

Back at home, tension simmers between Lidia and Enrico. He’s growing weary of her secrets, while she can’t stand the eyesore of an ugly Schwarzenberg clock that Filippo Cravero has bestowed upon them as a gift. Their attention is momentarily diverted by the announcement of election results, which bring jubilation to the household as they discover Enrico has emerged victorious. Filippo extends an invitation to a grand gala at his residence, with President Depretis in attendance, and generously offers Enrico the privilege of hosting the pre-gala reception.

Why does Marianna break up with Paolo?

Enrico is ecstatic, his joy radiating in a way that Teresa finds endearing. Marianna observes her parents’ affectionate display and feels a pang of discomfort when Teresa remarks on how they resemble Marianna and Paolo—a couple supposedly smitten from the very first glance. This comparison solidifies Marianna’s lingering doubts, prompting her to end her engagement with Paolo. She confesses her love for him and her lack of interest in marrying Lorenzo. Yet, with Lidia voicing reservations about their age difference and Jacopo extending an offer for Marianna to join his publication, Marianna finds herself at a crossroads, uncertain about her future. She realizes she lacks clarity on her own skills and feels the need to embark on a journey of self-discovery, alone.

Why do Lidia and Jacopo end up working together again?

Jacopo, feeling defeated, pens a farewell letter to Lidia. He confides in Cesare, announcing his intention to relocate to Rome since Fourneau will now oversee Atilla’s case, and invites Cesare to join him. Cesare, hurt, accuses Jacopo of abandoning the fight out of jealousy towards Fourneau.

Determined not to give up without a final effort, Jacopo heads to the carriage stands, where fate intervenes. He encounters Lidia, who harbors the same idea, and together they secure a ride in the very carriage the gunman used for his escape. They bribe the driver to take them to the gunman’s destination, which turns out to be a seedy inn. With only one available room, they decide to take it. Lidia discovers the same cigarette butt as before, but nothing else of significance, leading to a heated exchange between them. As night falls, they are left with no choice but to share the room.

Jacopo broaches the topic of Rome, but Lidia’s indifferent response prompts him to descend the stairs. The innkeeper, intrigued by their dynamic, probes Jacopo, who concocts a fictitious tale about planning to kill Lidia’s husband. The innkeeper then provides them with information leading to the gunman, Mario, who actually resides in the woods. Meanwhile, upstairs, Lidia stumbles upon Jacopo’s farewell letter but conceals it when he returns to share the news about Mario.

How does the investigative team uncover Juvara's sinister plot?

Cesare is frantically searching for the second book at Atilla's residence when Fourneau arrives with Lieutenant Galli. Both are driven by a shared determination to uncover the truth. Together, they ransack the house, turning it upside down in their quest. Eventually, the elusive book is discovered hidden in the chimney.

Lidia, Jacopo, and Fourneau hurry to Mario's place, where they pore over the book's contents. The pages have been meticulously carved out, revealing receipts for substantial sums related to an operation codenamed "15th March." Jacopo watches with a bitter expression as Lidia and Fourneau engage in a lively discussion, brimming with enthusiasm.

Upon their return to Mario's, chaos erupts as a shootout breaks out. Lidia, ever the negotiator, insists on talking and manages to pique Mario's interest by offering him a lifeline. She argues that Juvara will dispose of him once he outlives his usefulness. However, if Mario cooperates with them, the court will offer him protection and potentially reduce his sentence.

What is the nefarious plan concocted by Juvara and Filippo?

Mario eventually cracks under pressure and reveals that the 15th March operation is a coup aimed at the presidential gala. Juvara intends to detonate a bomb at the event and pin the blame for Depretis' death on the anarchists. His ultimate goal is to overthrow the current government and install his own loyalists in power.

Meanwhile, Anna is busy preparing for the gala when she notices a wine casket that has been delivered by the Turin bank. She awaits Depretis' entourage, but Filippo informs her that he has requested Enrico to hold a pre-gala reception instead. At that precise moment, the investigative team arrives on the scene, swiftly evacuating the premises while Fourneau searches frantically for the bomb.

Outside, Jacopo pours over the receipts and is puzzled by the exorbitant sums spent on seemingly frivolous items, such as a Schwarzenberg. Alarm bells start ringing in Lidia's mind as Jacopo explains that the Schwarzenberg is a rare clock model, with only 10 copies in existence in Italy. Memories flood back to her of all the ways Filippo had facilitated the Poets' proximity to the President. Suddenly, she spots Filippo waving at her mockingly. In a flash of realization, she deduces that the bomb is concealed within the clock and rushes home, with Jacopo hot on her heels.

Back at home, the Poets are warmly welcoming President Depretis, who is in the midst of enjoying tea when Jacopo and Lidia burst in. They frantically attempt to hurl the clock out of the window, sparking a struggle as an embarrassed Enrico tries to intervene. However, their efforts pay off as the clock is finally thrown out, exploding moments later.

Depretis expresses his gratitude to Lidia but is reluctant to publicize the assassination attempt, fearing it would undermine his authority. Nevertheless, he assures them that Juvara and Filippo will face the consequences of their actions.

How does Season 2 come to a close? Filippo Cravero and Juvara find themselves behind bars, ensnared in a relatively minor corruption case. Yet, Jacopo, driven by an unwavering sense of journalistic duty to keep the public informed, resolves to pen an article about the assassination attempt despite the risks. However, his plans are thwarted when Lieutenant Galli intervenes, preventing the piece from seeing the light of day.

Anna, who had been kept in the dark about the entire ordeal, is understandably furious with Filippo. In her moment of distress, Enrico steps in to offer comfort, extending an invitation for her to join him in Rome as his trusted advisor.

Meanwhile, Lidia opts to remain in Turin. Fourneau, sensing an opportunity, playfully teases her, hinting that her decision to stay might be for his sake. Lidia, in a moment of indulgence, doesn't dissuade him, leaving Fourneau deeply grateful for the glimmer of hope she's given him. Spurred on by this newfound optimism, he informs the doctor of his desire to proceed with the surgery.

As Lidia makes her way home, a chance encounter with a couple walking hand in hand evokes memories of her and Jacopo. Seizing the moment, she rushes to the train station, where she discovers Jacopo's train is set to depart in just five minutes. With urgency in her voice, she confesses her longing for him and her confusion over why she constantly pushes him away. Their parting is tinged with sadness, but Jacopo believes it's for the greater good.

In the poignant finale of The Law According to Lidia Poet Season 2 Episode 6, as the train is about to leave, Lidia leans in to kiss Jacopo one last time before stepping off. With tears glistening in her eyes, she wipes them away and resolutely makes her way back to the heart of Turin.
