In Episode 4 of "The Law According to Lidia Poet," Dr. Munari is seen identifying the body of his murdered sister, Eloisa, in court. The news breaks that Munari has been arrested for the murder. Lidia requests a two-week delay, which Fourneau agrees to, as he wants the jury to make a fair decision based on a fair trial. Lidia is grateful but only gets a one-week delay.

Grazia and his wife, Margherita, insist that Munari would never hurt anyone. Margherita adds that he was fine and got along well with Eloisa, even though she had taken advantage of him. The prosecutor, Cantamessa, reveals that Eloisa contested their family inheritance and obtained some of the Genoan properties and a large sum of money. Following this, Munari would often visit her, and last night, a witness saw him rushing out. They also heard an argument. According to Cantamessa, the motive is money and revenge.
In prison, Grazia rants to Virginia about the Munari obstacle, who believes there is a conspiracy against her. She suggests that someone could be pulling the strings since Fontana was a war hero and personally worked for the King. She tells Grazia not to rely on Lidia and hints at an escape, implying that only Grazia can save herself.
Enrico is stressed and paranoid, unable to perform for Teresa. Annoyed, she sleeps separately and gives him the silent treatment. Next door, Consuelo is jealous that Jacopo isn't paying her attention. She confronts him for dropping everything for Lidia, and he insists that there is nothing going on between them.
This episode paints a vivid picture of the complexities of the legal system and the emotional turmoil that ensues in the aftermath of a murder. The characters' reactions and interactions add depth to the story, making it more engaging and relatable for the audience.Lidia devises a new strategy: she enlists the esteemed Dr. Lombroso to conduct a study on Grazia and vouch for her character. The Poets then interrogate Munari, who reveals that Eloisa frequented unsavory company and worked in theatrical brothels like Cafe Valli. Despite his concern and generosity in offering her a monthly allowance, she perceived him as controlling and sued him for emancipation. Lidia is intrigued by Valli, but Enrico's reluctance is swiftly overtaken by Jacopo's eagerness. Consuelo, the jealous one, joins them. They pay a visit to a showgirl who reveals that Eloisa was threatened by an older man with a deformed hand, and she had reported him just days before her demise. Consuelo performs a love song but seems disturbed by Jacopo and Lidia's bittersweet exchange of glances.
Lombroso employs hypnotism on Grazia, who shares that her happiest memory is of sharing a house with Lidia - her sole friend. However, Lidia's father's unexpected visit and the note he left behind causes Grazia to fear that he would apologize, leading Lidia to return home, leaving her alone. This backfires as it portrays Grazia in an unfavorable light to Lombroso, who declines to testify. An emotional Lidia seeks comfort from Fourneau, kissing him but fleeing when the door unexpectedly opens, fearing their intimacy might be witnessed. Meanwhile, Virginia is instructed to share her cell with Grazia.
At home, Enrico attempts to reconcile with Teresa, only to be interrupted by Lidia who wishes to drop Grazia's case. However, losing the case would mean Enrico's failure to secure the position of Undersecretary and the burial of their law. Faced with a dilemma, Lidia reluctantly agrees to help Munari.
Lidia and Jacopo confront the corrupt cop who protected Eloisa's blackmailer, leveraging their old connections to reveal his identity. The man insists that he didn't hurt Eloisa, but his words fall on deaf ears.
At home, Consuelo rants to Teresa about Jacopo's continued association with Lidia. She suffers from morning sickness but begs Teresa not to tell him about her pregnancy, fearing he'll stay out of obligation. Teresa, while claiming a child is a blessing, looks troubled when Consuelo suggests it's only wanted when both parents desire it.
The Poets and Jacopo visit Glauco Bonetti, the blackmailer, who lives in squalor with his newborn crying. Enrico instantly calms the child, and Lidia spots a brooch matching Margherita's ring. Bonetti reveals that Margherita, who hated her and wanted her dead, paid him well to scare Eloisa out of Turin. When Bonetti refused, Margherita claimed she would do it herself. Margherita is arrested and confesses to dressing up as a man, killing Eloisa, and framing the scene as a lover's quarrel to protect her husband from blame.
Munari is upset but agrees to testify for Grazia. Back home, Enrico tries his luck with Teresa again, revealing that Bonetti's child has reminded him of his desire to be a father. Consuelo and Jacopo overhear them hooking up, sparking a fight. When Jacopo refuses to leave town with her, Consuelo claims he no longer loves her like before.
At the next hearing, Lidia hides in the back and watches Munari's testimony. Fourneau is even more ruthless than before, pushing his theory that as Grazia's lover, Munari is biased. But once the hearing adjourns, he looks upset. Lidia rants to Jacopo about Grazia's lies and regrets not reaching out to her father. He comforts her and she holds his hand.
The next day, the newspapers report Lidia and Fourneau's affair and its potential impact on the trial. Both of them look shocked upon seeing the news.
