In the gripping tenth episode of The Legend of Vox Machina's Season 3, Raishan abruptly teleports away, clutching Thordak's lifeless body in her grasp. Keyleth, her heart heavy with disappointment, lays the blame squarely on her teammates for disregarding her warnings about Raishan. With tears of frustration in her eyes, she vows never to lean on anyone else for support and takes flight, disappearing into the horizon.
Vex, driven by an insistent urge to pursue Ripley, decides to depart as well, accompanied by her brother Vax. This leaves Pike and Grog behind, with an unconscious Scanlan lying between them. Grog ponders if Scanlan might be unconsciously avoiding waking up, while Pike senses there's more to it. Seeking guidance, Pike sets out to find Kaylie with Allura's assistance, sharing her concerns that Scanlan has been in a state of disarray without Kaylie's presence and might need her to find the will to keep living.
Meanwhile, Keyleth retreats to the comfort of her father Korrin's home. She pleads with him, asking how she can lead the Ashari if she can't even convince her closest friends to heed her words. Korrin reveals the existence of an ancient ritual capable of pinpointing someone's location but warns her against using it, deeming it overly perilous. The Earth Ashari, he explains, would hesitate to share such knowledge without the council's consent.
Korrin convenes a council meeting, where Keyleth earnestly appeals for their trust in allowing her to perform the ritual. To her shock, the council reveals that it was the Ashari who cursed Raishan in the past. Acknowledging the grave danger she poses, they refuse to impart the ritual's secrets to her. The revelation casts a dark shadow over Keyleth's hope, leaving her more determined yet deeply troubled.
Later, with unwavering determination, Keyleth makes her way back to the council chamber, confronting Headmaster Ovenda and openly defying his orders. Though she has been strictly instructed to remain silent and confined within her Aramente, she refuses to succumb to cowardice. She boldly asserts her individuality, declaring that she is not a carbon copy of her mother but a trailblazer, carving her own unique path through resolve. Her duties extend beyond her people, encompassing the entirety of Exandria.
At this juncture, the Earth Ashari intervene, lending their blessing to the ritual and offering to guide Keyleth in its execution. Their esteemed leader informs her that mastering this ritual necessitates tapping into and securing the dormant power already resident within her. Despite her diligent attempts, Keyleth's maiden effort at performing the ritual falters, as she feels the earth's gravitational pull dragging her into its depths, consuming her will like a voracious beast.
Meanwhile, Vex and Vax arrive in Stilben, their eyes catching sight of a Tabaxi wielding a pepperbox. This mysterious figure guides them to a dock where a ship, cloaked in secrecy and docking only under the cover of night, has been distributing deadly weapons. The twins wait patiently for the ship's next appearance, but Vex's impatience soon gets the better of her. She strikes out alone, boarding the next incoming vessel, but is swiftly captured.
In a rush of adrenaline, Vax arrives to confront the captors and rescue his sister from perilous waters. Amidst the fray, they lose sight of the ship as other adversaries descend upon them. Vex is faced with a dire choice: to save Vax or to pursue the escaping vessel. Her heart breaks as she prioritizes her brother's safety.
Determined not to succumb to failure once more, Keyleth retries the ritual. This time, she succeeds in tracing the mystical thread, but it leads her not to Raishan, but to the very ship being pursued by Vex and Vax. The twins have caught up with the vessel and are now cornered by Anna Ripley and her ruthless crew, the air thick with tension and impending conflict.
