The Lincoln Lawyer – Season 1 Episode 7

Published: Jul 16 2024

Episode 7 of The Lincoln Lawyer kicks off with Mickey employing Cisco's skills to uncover every iota of information about Juror number 7. Jerry's untimely demise, had he filed for a continuance, would have resulted in an entirely different jury. This revelation leads Mickey to deduce that Jerry's murder was premeditated for this very reason.

With the car still wired for surveillance, Mickey cleverly tampers with it, enabling him and Izzy to discuss business matters and switch vehicles without arousing suspicion. Their discussion revolves around crafting opening statements, which are expertly intercut with Golantz and Mickey delivering their respective statements before the jury.

During a recess, Maggie confesses to Mickey that she has acquiesced to his wishes and Tanya will be relocated, far from Soto's reach. However, upon delivering the good news to Tanya, Mags learns of a tragic tale. A friend of Tanya's, who worked at one of Soto's nursing homes in Cebu City, was allegedly murdered by Soto. He spun the story, claiming her friend had been put on a plane and sent home. The key to exposing this lie and proving Soto's murderous nature seems to lie in a flower shop.

Deputy Murray, who was present at the crime scene, offers his initial testimony, describing Trevor's emotionless demeanor as he guided them through the scene. He repeatedly claimed innocence, stating three times that he did not kill Lara. However, during Mickey's cross-examination, he digs deeper, uncovering that Trevor was handcuffed, while the other officer had a gun drawn. This revelation gives Mickey a promising start, even prompting a dismissive remark from Trevor.

Detective Kinder takes the stand next, a far more seasoned and formidable witness than Murray. The prosecution drags the proceedings until the closing minutes of the day, when Mickey unleashes a barrage of doubts, implicating Jan Rilz, Anton Shavar, and the affair. His efforts are enough to leave the jury doubting the prosecution's narrative, particularly when Kinder admits they never investigated those affairs thoroughly.

After the court proceedings, Cisco updates Mickey on his investigative efforts. Juror number 7, it turns out, is Glenn McSweeney, a shady character from Van Nuys with a criminal record. Moreover, Kosevich's ties to Putin, the Russian mob, and his son's close association with Trevor Elliot add further intrigue to the case. Cisco warns Mickey to tread carefully, given the complexities of the situation.

The following day, Judge Stanton summons Golantz and Mickey to his chambers. He has received an anonymous tip regarding jury tampering, specifically highlighting Juror number seven's arrest record. Concerned about the integrity of the trial, he initially proposes a mistrial. However, both Golantz and Mickey argue for the proceedings to continue. When Trevor learns of this, his confidence wavers, casting doubt on their chances of success.
