Cut to the present, where Lindy enlists Richard's help in her quest for freedom. They move into one of the houses during the Christmas decorations. In the meantime, Les uses Lindy's laptop as a lure. However, since she has her phone, she figures she'll be okay.

When Lindy turns on her phone, she sees multiple missed calls from Terry and realizes how viral the story has become. Everyone seems to be enjoying it, and this causes Lindy to feel proud, even though she didn't write the story. She calls Terry, who urges her to hold her horses and do nothing as Terry figures out what to do. Terry updates her on what happened with Jackie and mentions the cowboy. Terry begs Lindy to do nothing until she solves things with Jackie.

After the call, Lindy sees an invitation to appear on the "Today Show." Richard encourages her to do a Zoom interview since she will appear at a regular size on the video. Lindy agrees and books the interview.

In the meantime, Les puts up tape all over the living room to prevent himself from accidentally stepping on Lindy. His mother, Nancy, starts to worry that he is losing his mind. He lies that he is secretly remodeling the house and asks her to stay downstairs.

Lindy and Richard watch Nancy and Les talking. Richard realizes he misses his mother, while Lindy wishes she had a mother like Nancy.

Simultaneously, Les escorts Nancy downstairs, pleading with her to return home. However, she remains unswayed by his tale and insists on staying put. Upstairs, Richard enlightenes Lindy about the square-cubed law of strength, urging her to stand on the counter and retrieve her phone charger. On the counter, Lindy's gaze falls on a family photo they took a few Christmases ago—the year when they gifted Lulu the dollhouse. Lulu persisted in her claim that dad was at work while mom was watching TV, despite Lindy's desire for her to say that he worked from home.

On the other hand, Lulu awakes with a nasty hangover at Stephy's place. She's pissed to see Stephy's roommate, whom she doesn't like. Stephy also left behind Lindy's book for Lulu to read.

Lulu returns home and confides everything to Nancy, including dropping out of college and hating science. Nancy encourages her to read Lindy's book. In the meantime, Les lies to Martin that Lindy is at the grey house. They run into Nils having a coffee meeting with Bob from the lab. Later, Les confronts Bob at the lab for speaking to a journalist. Bob explains that he was merely talking to Nils about his brother-in-law's company.

Ten years ago, Lindy and Les were dining with friends when their argument erupted. Les, driven by his unfulfilled desire for the Nobel Prize, insisted it was his turn to try again. Lindy, on the other hand, believed it was her turn to focus on her new book, now that Les had completed his GMO tomato. The tension between them escalated, culminating in a heated argument that ended with them engaging in car sex.

Vivienne assures Les that Mr. Magoo is doing fine. As they flirt, Les and Lulu both experience epiphanies. Meanwhile, a friend messages Lulu about her mother's interview on the Today show, surprising Lulu that her mom had written something. Nancy and Lulu notice that Lindy seems to be in the upstairs office. Lulu goes to check and discovers the real draft from Jackie.

At the lab, Les starts to slip and fall asleep in his office. Martin mentions Lindy's interview, shocking him. He rushes home and spots Lindy. She confronts him for setting traps in the house. As they talk, Nancy sees Lindy and faints. The commotion brings Lulu upstairs, and Les sends her to get medicine.

After Nancy regains consciousness, she scolds Les for lying to her and miniaturizing Lindy. She blames herself for protecting Les too much and, ironically, turning him into a controlling man like his father. She advises him to come clean to Lindy about why he miniaturized her or he will lose her. In anger, she storms out after telling him the truth about his father.

After Nancy leaves, Les goes to cry in his car and leaves a voicemail for Lindy. In the message, he claims that he loves her but that he miniaturized her on purpose. He starts crying, and Lulu finds him, worried that Lindy left them, which is why Les is heartbroken. He doesn't bother to correct her.

Lindy is enraged when she receives Les's message. The truth hits her like a wrecking ball!
