Episode 4 of *The Rainmaker* opens with a haunting flashback, where Jackie is seen engaged in a tense conversation with the vice president of North City Hospital. Her voice trembles as she confesses her fear of Melvin's potential actions. The scene then shifts abruptly to the present, where Melvin has orchestrated the abduction of Jackie, plunging her into a nightmare.
Meanwhile, Sarah stumbles upon Rudy tending bar at Prince's establishment. Their initial exchange about Rudy's mother quickly gives way to a more pressing topic: Donny Ray's case. Rudy's curiosity is piqued when Jackie's name is mentioned, prompting him to question why both nurses on duty that fateful night were dismissed by the hospital.
A heated debate ensues between Sarah and Rudy regarding Jackie. In a moment of unguarded candor, Sarah inadvertently lets slip that Jackie was a member of the tissue committee. Rudy presses her for details, but Sarah clams up and storms off. After a brief interlude of introspection, she returns, begging Rudy to keep her revelation under wraps.
Rudy, however, stands firm. He refuses to harbor Sarah's secret, insisting that he owes it to Bruiser to disclose any information that could bolster their case.
Elsewhere, Jackie regains consciousness, disoriented from the drugs Melvin had administered. Her captor looms over her, brandishing threats and revealing a chilling confession: he has murdered her neighbor. With menacing intent, Melvin demands to know if Jackie has divulged any incriminating information about him to North City Management.
That same evening, Rudy returns home from work, only to find himself face-to-face with Cliff, the police officer and Kelly's husband. Sensing danger, Rudy pays a visit to Kelly, where he confides in her about Cliff's menacing behavior. Kelly, desperate and fearful, implores Rudy to steer clear of the authorities and to never set foot in her apartment again, lest Cliff discover his presence.
Later that same night, Rudy and Deck rendezvoused at their office. Rudy brought up the tissue committee to Deck, who, intrigued, decided to delve into it. Meanwhile, Leo was trying to persuade Mr. Keeley to settle the case by offering Mrs. Black an $80 million payout. He argued that Leo was in just as precarious a position as Mr. Keeley if they failed to find a way to thwart Bruiser and Rudy.
The following morning, Bruiser arrived at work to find Rudy and Deck slumbering outside. Rudy roused Deck from his slumber, and the two proceeded to regale Bruiser with the details of the tissue committee. Deck disclosed that the committee was comprised of a group of doctors tasked with investigating mysterious deaths at the hospital. They also revealed that Jackie, despite being a nurse, was a member of the committee.
Rudy hinted at the possibility of a cover-up, noting that the only two nurses involved in Donny's case had mysteriously vanished. Bruiser then informed them that Melvin was scheduled for a preliminary hearing the next morning and requested that Rudy speak with him.
Rudy implored Bruiser to keep Sarah's name out of their findings, but Bruiser retorted that Sarah was not the person Rudy believed her to be. The next morning, Melvin splurged on a new suit for his hearing. Simultaneously, Deck met with Dr. Pete, his informant, and secured the autopsy reports for Jackie's neighbor.
Melvin and Rudy found themselves in the same elevator on their way to the courtroom. During the ride, Melvin inquired if Rudy was the man responsible for his mother's demise. Rudy vehemently denied any involvement, and Melvin appeared to accept his word.
In court, Jane kept a close eye on Melvin. She made her way to the parking lot, scouring for his car. Back at the office, Rudy recounted his encounter with Melvin to Bruiser and Deck. They pondered over Melvin's case and speculated about who could have set Melvin's house ablaze.
The trio brainstormed strategies to uncover Melvin's true motives. Bruiser tasked Rudy with filing the motions to compel the discovery of the tissue committee's records, hoping to ascertain whether Melvin was implicated in any wrongdoing.
At the same moment, Melvin is hurtling back with Jackie stashed away, drugged and senseless, in the trunk of his car. However, Jane is hot on Melvin's trail, following him with unwavering determination. Meanwhile, Brad, sensing Sarah's unease, inquires about what's troubling her and brings up Rudy's name. Sarah attempts to brush him off, but Brad persists, urging her to voice any concerns that weigh on her mind. Caving under the pressure, Sarah questions Brad about Jane, only to receive the same information Leo had previously shared.
That very night, Melvin arrives at a secluded cottage nestled deep in the woods, Jackie still unconscious in his trunk. As Jackie begins to panic upon regaining consciousness, Melvin brandishes a threat, looming over her menacingly. In a desperate bid for survival, Jackie reveals that the tissue committee, a clandestine group of eleven individuals, is hot on Melvin's heels. Suddenly, Melvin's ears prick up at the sound of someone lurking nearby, spying on them. In a flash, he lunges at Jane, scalpel in hand, intent on silencing the intruder.
Just as Melvin is about to deliver a fatal blow to Jackie, she cleverly distracts him by offering information that could potentially save his skin. Seizing the opportunity, Jane manages to break free, albeit wounded, and Jackie follows suit, fleeing into the night as Melvin, momentarily disoriented, gives chase and eventually recaptures her.
Meanwhile, Deck implores Rudy to put his misdeeds involving Sarah's information behind him and urges him to return home. The following morning, Leo confronts Sarah, accusing her of leaking confidential details about the tissue committee to Rudy. He tasks Brad with handling the situation and makes it clear that he no longer trusts Sarah. In response, Sarah suggests to Brad that they should comply with the law and provide all necessary documents to the plaintiff. Brad, however, contends that as the defendant, their duty is to withhold such information.
In a frantic attempt to reach Jane, who is now bleeding profusely in her car, Brad dials her number. Jane, barely holding on, manages to drive herself to North City Hospital, where she collapses just as the nurses discover her, battered and broken.
That same night, Rudy shows up unannounced at Sarah's doorstep, offering a heartfelt apology for misusing the information she had entrusted to him. The encounter quickly escalates into a heated argument, culminating in Sarah demanding that Rudy leave her premises. As Rudy exits, he bumps into Kelly, who has just returned from work. Kelly heads to her room to stash away her earnings in her usual hiding spot, only to discover that the money has vanished from her laundry basket. The episode draws to a close with Cliff confronting Kelly, his eyes ablaze with suspicion.
