Episode 7 of The Recruit's first season commences with a nostalgic glimpse into the past, three years ago, where Owen and Hannah, law school sweethearts, faced a dilemma. Hannah desperately needed a reference book for her exams the following day, but the librarian refused, citing its rarity. Desperate, Hannah turned to Owen, who mischievously suggested stealing it for the night. This audacious act became the genesis of their bond.

In the present, Max and Owen embark on a journey to Geneva, where Max playfully demands that he assume the role of her companion. She underscores the importance of their reliance on each other, as their fates are intertwined.

Meanwhile, in the States, Hannah awakens with a nagging concern for Owen's whereabouts. Linus reveals that he has departed for Geneva, sparking speculation about his nocturnal activities with Terence. Hannah's mother interrupts her thoughts, requesting a ride to work. En route, she cunningly tasks Hannah with using her current beau, Jeff, to procure information about a recent White House meeting. Hannah reluctantly agrees, but her mother's manipulation leads to Jeff's dismissal, angering Hannah.

In Geneva, Owen and Max arrive unscathed at their hotel, encountering Xander who awaits them in their room. Max threatens to expose Xander's secrets if he poses a threat, and he acquiescently agrees to cooperate. Max frets about Krill, the local mafia boss, discovering her presence. Xander warns that his knowledge may soon surface, as half the hotel staff is on Krill's payroll. He advises caution until their bank visit the following morning, handing Owen a flash cable before they depart.

Alone, Max diligently removes the surveillance devices planted by Xander. She also commissions a GPS-enabled watch for added security. Elsewhere, Dawn contacts Xander, informing him that Max has discovered his subterfuge. She sternly warns him against interfering with her operations, revealing that Standish and his team have arrived in Germany.

Owen visited the Consulate with a heavy heart and dialed Janus's number. The urgency in Janus's voice was unmistakable as he revealed the escalating crisis surrounding the missile operation. Owen, determined to find a way out, proposed a daring plan. "If we can create a maze of confusion, it will be impossible to uncover the truth," he said resolutely. Janus, astonished, agreed that it was the most foolhardy yet ingenious idea Owen had ever come up with.

After hanging up, Owen sought solace in a drink and stumbled upon a young lady named Marta. Suspicion clouded his mind as he conjectured she might be a foreign agent on a "sexpionage" mission. Marta hastily denied any such thing, leaving Owen perplexed.

Later, Owen dined with Max at a restaurant, unaware that Violet and Lester were watching their every move. Max surprised Owen with a GPS-enabled watch, and he accepted it without question. During their meal, Owen probed Max about her plans and the secret she held about Xander. She revealed that Xander had been indulging in an affair with Krill's wife, leaving Krill desperate for answers.

As they dined, Max noticed one of Krill's men lurking in the restaurant. She confronted him in the restroom, sending a cryptic message to Krill. Returning to their hotel room, Max and Owen shared an intimate moment.

The next morning, Owen and Max made their way to the bank, hoping to access Max's frozen account. However, the teller informed them that the account was inaccessible. Realizing his mistake in calculating the time difference between Geneva and America, Owen frantically tried to reach Linus and Terence, but they were asleep. Lester, pretending to be ill, refused to help, forcing Owen to turn to Amelia for assistance.

Amelia, sensing the urgency, went to Owen's apartment and persuaded Linus to call him back. Hannah inquired about Owen's well-being, but Amelia assured her he was fine for now. Linus informed Owen that there was nothing he could do as the account had been flagged. Determined to help, Hannah packed her bags and convinced Terence to join her in Geneva to find and rescue Owen.

As Owen and Max left the bank, they spotted Lester and Violet in a surveillance car. Joining them was Xander, and they huddled together to brainstorm a solution. Owen devised a plan to threaten the teller, but it failed. However, he managed to convince the teller to let Max check her safety deposit box.

Inside the box, Max retrieved a gun and a photograph of her daughter, Karolina. She pulled out a document and used the phone of the man she had beaten in the restaurant's restroom to call Krill. She proposed a meeting and revealed her intention to return to Krill's fold. She also asked him to send the bounty money to a man named Lev.

Meanwhile, Xander returned to Owen and Max's hotel room, unaware of the danger that awaited him. An assassin, cloaked in a black hoodie, lunged at him. Xander fought back valiantly, but the assassin emerged victorious, falling off the balcony and perishing in the streets.

Max and Owen arrived just then, horrified to find Xander's lifeless body on a car. As the police sirens wailed, they fled the scene, followed closely by Hannah and Terence. Owen glimpsed Hannah's face but couldn't quite place her in the chaos of the moment.
