Meanwhile, in Virginia, the tension is palpable. Just 90 minutes prior to Nichka's fatal encounter with Max, Amelia receives a harrowing call from Hannah. The latter warns her that Owen has been abducted and threatens to expose Amelia's unauthorized disclosure of classified information if he isn't rescued.

Back in Ostrava, Owen's pleas for mercy resonate through the air as Nichka leads him to an open grave, the symbol of his impending doom. Outside, Dawn and Dodge stealthily prepare to breach the compound, but their intentions are shrouded in mystery. Are they there to rescue Owen, or is there a darker agenda at play? The truth unfolds: Dawn harbors a grim resolve to ensure Owen's silence, believing that a dead man tells no tales and certainly won't betray a corrupt CIA operative.

As the assault team moves into position and neutralizes Nichka's henchmen, Owen seizes the opportune moment to bolt. However, Nichka's strength overpowers him, pinning him down with her legs like a vice. Dawn arrives on the scene to find Owen still breathing, stunned to learn that Nichka is Max's estranged daughter. Her team swiftly apprehends Nichka, leaving Dawn alone with Owen, torn between letting him bleed out or striking a tentative alliance.

Owen pleads with Dawn, reminding her that their survival hinges on mutual cooperation, as they both possess damaging secrets about each other. Dawn is privy to Owen's connection with Max, while he knows about her clandestine missions and financial embezzlement from the organization. Despite his pleas, Dawn remains unconvinced and inches closer to ending Owen's life. But fate intervenes in the nick of time, as a second team arrives and rescues Owen from her mercy.

Elsewhere, on the frozen shores of Sakhalin Island in Russia, a Korean woman finds herself entangled in a harrowing ordeal, kidnapped by a shadowy group of masked men, her fate hanging in the balance. After Owen's dramatic rescue, he is promptly airlifted to the United States, where he receives emergency medical attention aboard the aircraft. Upon touching down, the weight of his actions bears down on him, prompting him to confess to Lester about the lives he has taken. Lester, wise to the perils of such confessions, urges him to keep silent. Hannah enters the scene, attempting to persuade Owen to abandon his perilous path. He assures her he will, once he ties up loose ends, eager to avoid blame for the mission's catastrophic turn. Heartbreakingly, Hannah severs ties with him, informing him of her intent to vacate their shared abode.

Concurrently, Dawn briefs Director West, Nyland, and Amelia on the asset's untimely demise, casting aspersions on the deceased for their deceit. Director West remains unperturbed. Lester brings news of Max's daughter's survival, earning him a promotion to lead Dawn's division in Warsaw. Additionally, Director West tasks Lester with vetting and enlisting Nichka as a new asset, pairing him with Violet for the mission.

In a private confrontation in the restroom, Dawn and Owen devise a scheme to evade responsibility for the mess they've created, deciding to frame Max and Xander for their woes. Their cunning plan seems feasible until Nichka, eavesdropping, catches wind of it. Confronting Owen, she finds herself the target of his persuasive tactics, offering her a chance to become an asset and earn money in exchange for his promise to spare her from Russian entanglements.

Later, a humbled Owen visits Nyland's office, only to receive a scathing rebuke and a demotion to desk duty. Nyland strips his office bare, leaving him with the bare essentials: a chair and a table. Desperate for human connection, Owen seeks out Amelia, but like the rest of the office, she shuns him. She warns him cryptically of his indefinite exile to office purgatory, hinting that the investigation's conclusion will likely scapegoat him.

The ensuing days stretch into an endless monotony for Owen. He spends his hours in a slumber on his desk or outside the office walls, the boredom clawing at his sanity. Unexpectedly, a letter addressed to his predecessor, Bill Bemus, lands on his desk. Against his better judgment, curiosity gets the better of him, and he cracks open the envelope to reveal a cryptic message. Seeking clarification, he drops by Janus's office, only to be hastily informed of Bemus's demise and warned to cease any further inquiries, Janus eager to be rid of him.

As anticipated, Owen chooses to disregard Janus and marches straight to the IT department in search of answers. He compels the IT specialist to execute the code, causing an abrupt shutdown that envelops the entire office. This unfortunate turn of events lands Owen once again in Nyland's office, facing a torrent of reprimands. Yet, Owen, with his smooth tongue and prowess as a lawyer, manages to persuade Nyland to allow him to delve into the mysterious letter. He rationalizes that since he's already in hot water, Nyland can easily disavow any involvement if the case takes a turn for the worse. Conversely, if the investigation bears fruit, Owen demands his job reinstatement and immunity from blame concerning the Meladze operation. Nyland ponders his choices and concedes that Owen might indeed be onto something.

Owen further adds that as a child, he resided in Korea during his father's military posting there, thus familiarity with the terrain. Director West, already keen on keeping the matter under wraps, nods in silent agreement.

Owen inadvertently stumbles upon a clandestine Korean operation, leading him on a journey to Seoul, where he will stay at the enigmatic hotel named Paradox. To aid Owen in this venture, Nyland pairs him with Janus, much to Janus's chagrin.

The duo returns home to pack, and Owen finds himself lost in recollections of Jin-lee, his former childhood sweetheart. Before departing, he receives a menacing call from Nichka, who threatens to expose his secrets unless she is compensated for her role as an asset. Tired of the vetting process and with a mission of her own to complete, she demands action. Owen pleads for more time to devise a solution.

During the flight to Korea, Janus cautions Owen against letting his emotions for Jin-lee cloud his judgment and jeopardize their mission. Upon arrival, they are greeted by military personnel and ushered in for questioning by Grace Cho. Janus reassures Owen that such procedures are routine in rush operations like theirs. When Grace Cho takes Janus aside and mistakes Owen for his assistant, Janus provides a vague and suspicious explanation, knowing she cannot deny him entry into the country.

Meanwhile, Owen patiently awaits in the break room, where he crosses paths with Jang Hyun-kim, who adopts the guise of a clerk. Without hesitation, Owen exposes his lie, and a camaraderie forms between them over shared meals. As they exit, Janus and Owen become aware of a shadowy follower trailing behind. They hastily make their way to the Paradox Hotel, securing separate accommodations. Janus steadfastly refuses to delve into the graymailer's affairs, insisting that their only course of action is to await their arrival.

Owen, on the other hand, devises a plan to divert Jang Hyun-kim's attention with culinary delights while sneaking out of the hotel undetected. He ventures to Jin-lee's workplace, observing her from afar with a mix of fondness and curiosity. She catches sight of him, and they seize the opportunity for a heartfelt conversation. Owen expresses his gratitude for her unwavering support during his father's passing, vowing to return to her side soon before heading off to a club.

At the club, Owen anxiety waits for the graymailer while keeping Janus informed of his whereabouts. To his surprise, he discovers a note in his room, summoning him to the very same club. Janus chastises him, asserting that Owen has walked right into a trap. Amidst their conversation, Owen catches a glimpse of Jang Hyun-kim and attempts to make a swift exit.

Unfortunately, fate conspires against him as he becomes entangled in a confrontation with a stranger, leading to a fiery altercation. In a moment of heroism, Jang Hyun-kim steps in to rescue Owen, and they scramble to his car. Owen, still high on the adrenaline rush of the fight, is abruptly brought back to reality when Jang Hyun-kim sprays an unknown substance on his face, causing him to lose consciousness. The realization dawns on Owen with a jolt—Jang Hyun-kim is indeed the graymailer.
