The Summer Hikaru Died – Season 1 Episode 5 1

In the school's cooking class, anticipation buzzes as everyone eagerly anticipates the delight of fried chicken. Yet, Yoshiki's mind wanders, haunted by the uncanny sensation that the raw meat beneath his fingers bore an unsettling resemblance to Hikaru's innermost flesh. Hikaru, initially amused by Yoshiki's reaction, playfully offers to let him experience it again.

Sequestered in an unoccupied classroom, Yoshiki steels himself for another attempt. This time, the sensation is less disturbing, but when Hikaru reciprocates the touch, Yoshiki's panic spikes, culminating in a desperate cry for it to cease. Baffled and somewhat repelled, Yoshiki confronts Hikaru, wondering if he derives pleasure from exploiting others in such a manner. Hikaru, appearing contrite, professes to comprehend Yoshiki's discomfort.

Switching scenes, Kobayashi elucidates the insidious nature of evil, explaining how it intermingles with one's being during life. Once intertwined, it becomes a lifelong companion, acting as a magnet for other malevolent entities. Yoshiki, scrutinizing his arm, notices with alarm that the bruise darkens rather than fades.

At home, Kaoru adamantly refuses to bathe, haunted by the specter of the wig-clad apparition lurking within the confines of the bathroom. Elsewhere, the elders grill Tanaka, who assures them that he is meticulously devising a strategy to address the burgeoning crisis.

As Yoshiki hangs out with his friends, they playfully taunt him about his melancholic, emo demeanor. Hikaru chips in, remarking that Yoshiki has always been this way. The conversation flows easily among them until Yoshiki catches sight of the Wig Ghost, prompting Hikaru to offer to investigate with a mischievous chuckle, teasing that Yoshiki's kind nature somehow attracts such spirits to his home.

While Yoshiki anxiously awaits Hikaru's return, the latter jokes about devouring the ghost, just as he did last time. However, Hikaru's laughter is cut short by a sudden splash, and he's pulled underwater. The entity then snatches Yoshiki, plunging him into a surreal dreamscape that revisits a childhood spat with Hikaru, their fight continuing in a bathtub filled with memories.

Realizing the ghost has taken refuge inside Yoshiki, using him as a human shield, Hikaru carefully navigates his actions to avoid harming his friend. Emerging from the ordeal, Hikaru explains to Yoshiki that his defenses against such entities are weak. But Yoshiki's mind is consumed by a disturbing thought – his hand tightening around Hikaru's neck. What if one day, he loses control and kills him? Beside him, Hikaru berates himself for not shielding Yoshiki better.

Worries about the ghost targeting his family weigh heavily on Yoshiki's mind, but Hikaru's invitation to dinner interrupts his thoughts. As Hikaru seamlessly blends back into their family dynamic, reminiscent of the old days, Yoshiki can't help but yearn for Hikaru to embrace a more human existence.

Meanwhile, in the woods, Tanaka uses his blood as bait to lure out Nonuki. Takeda harbors suspicions that this individual possesses the power to obliterate their town, yet a twisted part of him ponders if perhaps that wouldn't be such a catastrophe after all.
