The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window – Season 1 Episode 7

Published: Jul 11 2024

Episode 7 of The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window kicks off with Anna seated at the police station, a steaming cup of coffee clutched in her hands. As she faces questioning, the mere mention of her threatening Carol or engaging with Chastity the day before her tragic demise casts her in an unfavorable light. But suddenly, the proceedings are halted by a man arriving to take Anna's fingerprints, unwittingly providing one of the series' most comedic moments.

As the interrogation resumes, Anna dives into her past, reminiscing about how she once created masterpieces depicting dogs. However, her artistic pursuits came to a halt when Elizabeth was conceived. For three lengthy months, confined to bed, Anna set up a custom easel and painted relentlessly, even as paint splattered her newborn daughter. And as we all know, Anna's brushstrokes ceased after Elizabeth's passing.

The fingerprint results soon arrive, shockingly matching the murder weapon. Anna is arrested for Chastity's murder, but in the morning, Sloane's intervention secures her release on bail. Despite taking a loan against the gallery, Sloane demands a thorough explanation from Anna, who, unfortunately, has no answers to offer.

Upon returning home, Anna is menaced by Neil to steer clear of Emma, only to be startled by eerie creaking noises emanating from the upstairs. As she cautiously opens the attic door, a glob of red blood trickles to the floor, leaving Anna bewildered and frightened.

Desperate for guidance, Anna calls her therapist, only to realize that it's actually Douglas on the other end. Douglas calmly steers Anna through the situation, encouraging her to ascend to the attic while still on the phone. It turns out that the blood dripping from the attic is merely red paint. Furthermore, Anna realizes that while drunk that night, she indeed stabbed Chastity... but only her painting. The "Perfect Family" portrait also comes to light, another forgotten creation from a drunken evening.

As Anna spots a pair of gloves discarded near the attic's corner, everything clicks. She suspects Buell as the perpetrator. It was he who rescued her from the rain that fateful night when she collapsed, and he has been residing upstairs ever since. This revelation also sheds light on the mysterious creaking noises.

Upon learning of Buell's true identity, Douglas instructs Anna to flee the house, fearing for her safety. As Anna peers through the window, panic engulfs her as she sees Buell marching purposefully towards Neil's house, a claw hammer tightly gripped in his hands.
