Elsewhere, Athena finds herself sobbing in a church, confessing to the pastor that she has committed a terrible sin and it's time for her to face the consequences. THEM: The Scare – Season 2 Episode 5 1

The pair visit Benito, but his grandmother is far from cooperative. Dawn secretly speaks with Benny, who offers her candy and reveals his heartfelt desire to have his brother returned to him. Diaz uncovers the fact that Benito and his brother were supposed to live with their grandmother, but due to the brother's tantrums, he was sent back to his parents.

Meanwhile, Edmund rushes home, panic-stricken. He spots his Raggedy Ann doll before receiving a call informing him that Child and Family Services have located his sister. He rushes to her place, where he's greeted by Dawn's ex-husband. It becomes clear that Edmund's storyline is set in 1989, revealing a slightly younger Dawn living with her former husband and a young Kel.

Edmund spins a tale about moving in next door, but his nervous behavior and the telltale signs of Donovan's blood on his knuckles soon raise Dawn's suspicions. She angrily kicks him out, warning him never to return or she'll have him arrested.

At home, Edmund breaks down in tears as the Raggedy Ann doll mocks him, accusing him of being a freak while his sister leads a normal life. He records himself, professing happiness for Dawn, but all he can see is blood as his room is increasingly filled with red yarn.

Back in the present day of 1991, Dawn and Diaz stake out Benito's house as he suffers a seizure. Dawn rushes him to the hospital, but it's too late. Benito's bones are shattered, and he lies lifeless at the conclusion of THEM: The Scare Episode 5, leaving a trail of unanswered questions and a deepening sense of dread.
