Episode 6 of THEM: The Scare opens with Dawn under the microscope, facing scrutiny for Benito's untimely death while under her watch and without any witnesses to her innocence. Meanwhile, Kyong-ah stumbles upon the discarded Raggedy Ann dolls that Athena had discarded, triggering a fiery confrontation. Athena tries to explain the racist connotations associated with the toy, but Kyong-ah is enraged that she took such a financial decision without her consent. Unable to trust her any longer, Kyong-ah terminates Athena's employment.

The racist cops gloat over Dawn's predicament, relishing in her investigation. To compound her woes, her council consists solely of White men, one of whom belongs to McKinney's cultish blue group. They barrage her with questions, and even with the lie detector, the session doesn't bode well for her. Shockingly, it's revealed that she took double the time to reach the hospital from Benito's residence. Her claim of getting lost falls flat on their ears.

In the Southslayer case, Dawn's past resurfaces, revealing that she brutally assaulted an innocent Black man with her baton in 1989, an incident that led her to never carry it again. McKinney's testimony that she was stalking him adds fuel to the fire. The final blow comes from Diaz's revelation, uncovering that Dawn spent three years in Ms. Mott's foster home before being adopted by Athena.

At school, Kel finds himself ostracized, with even Natalie turning her back on him after learning that his mother is a cop implicated in Benito's death. During a class talk on the dangers of weed delivered by a cop and a lion mascot, Kel starts hearing the lion's voice in his head, urging him to play a game. Unable to resist, Kel succumbs and soon realizes he's powerless to stop, slamming his hands on the floor repeatedly on the lion's command, to the horror of his classmates.

Dawn, suspended from her duties, remains cold and distant from Athena, angry that she never revealed the truth. Their feud escalates into a heated argument, but Kel sides with his grandmother, accusing Dawn of blaming everyone else while ignoring her own possible culpability. He points out that it was his father who was always there for him, while Dawn was often out "working" late into the night.

As Kel prepares to leave for his band performance at school, he's anything but happy when Dawn appears. Suddenly, he spots a Black man dressed in a Raggedy Andy-like outfit, with red hair, standing alone in the auditorium. In his mind's eye, he's alone with the man, and he starts playing a different tune. In reality, he's in a trance, and as Dawn rushes to his side in alarm, he suffers a seizure, bringing a chilling end to THEM: The Scare Episode 6.
