Episode 4 of Season 1 of "Untamed" kicks off with a poignant flashback, where Lucy finds herself revisiting the haunts of her childhood home. Draped in her mother's vibrant yellow dress, she is abruptly startled by a stranger's inquiry if she requires assistance. Startled, she bolts away and swiftly transforms her attire. On the brink of departure, her friend cautions her against aiding the misguided, to which Lucy merely shrugs and heads towards the mysterious caves.
Meanwhile, Naya and Kyle persist in their investigative endeavors within the caves. As they delve deeper, they stumble upon Abuelo's lower jaw, leading them inevitably to his deceased body. Examination suggests that Abuelo met his fate approximately a week prior.
Kyle then ventures back to the squatter village to relay the heart-wrenching news of Abuelo's demise to Gloria, his ex. However, Gloria remains unmoved by the sorrowful tidings. Kyle subsequently enlists additional rangers to scrutinize the squatters' possessions and brings them in for questioning. Summer, catching sight of the authorities, scurries behind a tree for cover.
Elsewhere, Kyle shares his insight with Souter that these cases are intricately intertwined. Among the squatters' belongings, drugs are discovered. Gloria, jaded by life's hardships, remains tight-lipped. The rangers proceed to conduct background checks on the other squatters, while Lucy's DNA results reveal that Rory was not her biological father. Intrigued, Kyle ponders if Lucy's mother had an affair, prompting him to push for further investigation, despite Souter's skepticism of its utility.
A youth visits the office, seeking audience with Kyle. He claims familiarity with Lucy from her teenage years, asserting that she is, in fact, Grace McRay. He recounts Lucy/Grace's time with a pastor's family in Nevada, last encountering her a decade ago, when the Gibbs family announced her reunification with her kin.
The young man hands Kyle a cherished photograph of Lucy at the church, later inquiring about the reward money with a hint of hopefulness.
Meanwhile, Naya tracks down Summer and inquires about Lucy. Summer reveals that Lucy had a boyfriend, Terces, who was quite the enigma. Lucy, known for her secrets, underwent a transformation because of this relationship. She found herself entangled in the treacherous world of drug trafficking for her clandestine lover. On several occasions, Lucy returned home battered and bruised. Both she and Pakuna held a special bond with Abuelo. Furthermore, Summer shares that she spotted Lucy on the fateful day of her demise, moments before Lucy embarked on her routine exchange at a nearby ravine.
After her conversation with Summer, Naya briefs Kyle on her latest discoveries. They concoct a plan to take a helicopter the following day and comb through the eastern district. Naya rummages through Lucy's bag, and later, Kyle does the same, stumbling upon a photograph of Lucy with a male hand resting on her shoulder. Unfortunately, the man's face is cropped out.
As night descends, Kyle ventures into Shane's favorite watering hole, probing for information about Abuelo and the drug syndicate. Kyle suspects Shane of being entangled in the narcotics trade. Shane concedes that occasionally, he was compensated to turn a blind eye. Beyond that, he claims ignorance about the mastermind behind the operations.
Shane taunts Kyle about Lucy's case, accusing him of failing to rescue her. He also dredges up the topic of Esther, Sean's attorney, and insinuates that Kyle might be linked to Sean's disappearance. Just then, Souter arrives and whisks Kyle away. He admonishes Kyle, warning him that his badge is on the line if he doesn't curb his drinking. Souter is deeply concerned that Kyle is self-destructing over his cases and the haunting memory of Caleb's death.
At Naya's abode, an unexpected visitor arrives—her ex. He insists on spending the night and reconciling with her and Gael. He pressures Naya to return to L.A. with him and cover up a case for him, as he is currently on administrative leave pending an investigation into missing funds. He begs Naya to lie and clear his name.
Naya firmly declines but reluctantly agrees to let him stay the night. However, she sneaks out with Gael and speeds to Kyle's house. She bares her soul to Kyle, confiding in him about her situation and revealing the restraining order she has against her ex.
Kyle graciously consents to their overnight stay, granting Gael unrestrained access to an array of playthings, with the sole exception of Caleb's cherished toys. The subsequent morning dawns, and Jill steps forward, eagerly volunteering to keep an eye on Gael while Kyle and Naya attend to their duties. With a request to Milch, Kyle tasks him with unleashing Pakuna and directing him back towards the deserted squatter settlement.
Unbeknownst to the others, they stealthily trail Pakuna to a network of caves where the shadowy figure of the drug ring's leader awaits. A chilling revelation unfolds: the ruthless gang has meted out justice to Abuelo for his treachery. As the episode reaches its climax, Naya and Kyle emerge victorious, escorting a captured Pakuna back with them.
