The episode kicks off with a fleeting radio announcement about the disappearance of the teenager, Ateeq Farooqi. Subsequently, DCI Harry Virdee (played by Staz Nair) sprints after Novak Rexa (portrayed by Lewis Goody), hot on his heels, all the way to a bustling train station. As Virdee finally catches up with Novak, a swift altercation ensues, resulting in Novak's foot becoming dangerously entangled between the railway tracks. Just before Virdee intervenes to save him, he interrogates Novak about Ateeq's whereabouts. By the time backup arrives, Novak is unconscious. With their timely appearance, Virdee excuses himself abruptly, claiming he is tardy for a wedding.
Prior to the nuptials, Virdee convenes with Riaz Hyatt (Vikash Bhai) to reflect on his approach in pursuing Novak. Riaz criticizes Virdee for not handling the situation more discreetly, suggesting it could have been swiftly resolved. Virdee counters by asserting his role in maintaining order while remaining under the radar, and then departs.
Outside the wedding venue, Virdee encounters Saima Virdee (Aysha Kala) and whimsically speculates how their lives would unfold if they were stars of a Bollywood film. Saima seeks his advice for facing her racist father-in-law, to which Virdee responds by suggesting they skip the encounter if she's uncomfortable. She insists they proceed, emphasizing their son Aaron as her motive. As they prepare to enter the wedding, they cross paths with Tara Virdee (Nina Singh), who eagerly seeks scoop on Ateeq's case. Virdee, however, remains tight-lipped.
Upon seeing Virdee with Saima at the wedding, Virdee's father is so distressed that he abruptly rises and exits the venue. This leaves Virdee deeply upset, prompting Saima to fetch him a drink to soothe his nerves. While doing so, she bumps into Virdee's ex-girlfriend, who feels compelled to inform her of their past intimate relationship with her husband. Despite these awkward encounters involving Virdee's family and his ex, the remainder of the wedding unfolds relatively smoothly. As Virdee and Saima return to their home, Virdee takes a few moments to sit on their son's bed, lost in thought. Shortly after, he reads a text message from DS Clare Conway (Elizabeth Berrington), informing him that Novak remains in surgery. Virdee informs Saima that he needs to leave for work earlier than usual, and they share an intimate moment together.
The following morning, Virdee receives a call informing him that Novak has successfully come out of surgery. When he attempts to question Novak, the latter immediately requests for his lawyer, bringing the conversation to an abrupt halt. Conway's timely arrival doesn't allow the situation to progress further; she pulls Virdee away and informs him that the ACC is pressuring her to reassign resources from the case due to the 13 days of silence from Ateeq. However, she ultimately grants him an additional 24 hours to work on the case.
Back at headquarters, Virdee meets DC Kalil Amin (Danyal Ismail). After gaining some insight into Kalil's background, Virdee tests his familiarity with the Ateeq case. Kalil displays a solid understanding, but their discussion is interrupted by a ringing phone. As Virdee steps away to speak with Ateeq's mother, he instructs Kalil to fetch them some drinks. Ateeq's mother expresses her belief that Ateeq was abducted because he was working with the police, a claim that Virdee cannot refute.
Virdee and Kalil then follow Vinnie Koomars. When Virdee purchases items from him and inquiries about Ateeq, Vinnie refuses to divulge any information, fearing he might end up like Ateeq. Kalil catches this snippet of conversation and realizes that Ateeq was actually Virdee's informant. Virdee instructs Kalil to return to the station while he makes a call. Meanwhile, Pritti sells drugs from her shop, with one of her customers warning her that she might suffer the same fate as Ateeq. Pritti reassures him that Bradford West operates differently and invites him to work with her, but Xavier's unexpected arrival cuts their conversation short. Pritti threatens to call the police if he doesn't leave, and he obliges, albeit reluctantly.Virdee grills Novak mercilessly, yet his lawyer's intervention thwarts any further progress. Unable to cope with this setback gracefully, Virdee dials a number, declaring war as soon as Novak exits the precincts. Meanwhile, Pritti is briefly captured in a tender embrace with her new beau, Nazir Saed (Akshay Kumar), oblivious to the fact that Xavier has witnessed their intimate moment.
Vasil Shala (Andi Jashy) approaches Virdee with urgent news: Novak, his man, has vanished. Virdee informs Vasil that the police have released him, a detail Vasil is already aware of. Vasil promises Virdee that Novak is just a question away, adding that all he has to do is ask. He even attempts to bribe Virdee with a sack of cash, which is summarily rejected.
In a clandestine meeting, Virdee confronts Riaz. The latter inquires about the motive behind Virdee's recent actions, to which Virdee responds, citing Ateeq's mother's plight. He also mentions an encounter with Vasil on his way there. Riaz asserts that Vasil and his gang must be eliminated due to their exploitation of underage children in their illicit dealings. Virdee is averse to this plan, vowing to protect Vasil from Riaz's wrath. Their conversation is abruptly cut short when Novak is deemed ready for further interrogation.
Novak initially resists, but when one of Riaz's men begins to choke him, he caves in, revealing that Ateeq is hiding in Carter Mills. Virdee instructs Riaz to keep Novak talking before excusing himself. Riaz's enforcer resents Virdee's reminder not to resort to lethal force, but Riaz dismisses his objection and outlines his next steps for Novak. Virdee then contacts Conway, sharing Ateeq's location but being advised against venturing in solo.Upon arriving at the designated location, Virdee initially observed nothing out of the ordinary until he was abruptly assaulted by an unknown assailant. After successfully incapacitating the man, Ateeq's cries for assistance drew his attention. Rushing to Ateeq's side, Virdee rescued him and escorted him to safety.
At the hospital, Conway interrogated Virdee about the source of his intelligence. He disclosed that he had acquired it from the Dessert Parlour located on Leeds Road, a statement corroborated by Kalil. Later that evening, Virdee sought solace in the company of Saima and Aaron, while a fleeting glimpse showed Novak dangling precariously in the woods. News of Novak's plight reached Virdee the following morning.
At the crime scene, Conway cautioned Virdee that the Professional Standards department would soon be scrutinizing his every move. Kalil confronted him about his earlier falsehood regarding the intelligence, but Virdee remained tight-lipped. Fuming over Novak's death, Virdee confronted Riaz, who vehemently denied any involvement in the tragedy.
In a gesture of camaraderie, Virdee celebrated Diwali with Saima and Aaron by presenting them with thoughtful gifts. Amidst the festivities, he proposed taking leftover food to his parents' house. Although Saima harbored doubts about the idea, Virdee proceeded nonetheless. His mother too attempted to dissuade him, but to no avail. When his father finally entered the room, he issued an ultimatum: if Virdee sought redemption, he must humble himself and beg for forgiveness. Compliance saw Virdee kneeling, only for his father to pour a bowl of chowder over his head, mockingly suggesting that if he acted like a dog, he should eat like one. The humiliation proved too much for Virdee, who grabbed his father by the scarf, sparking a heated altercation that culminated in Virdee storming out in a rage.
Returning home to confide in Saima about the harrowing encounter, Virdee was met with the sight of Priiti's new beau visiting her. Saima reassured Virdee that his father's fear stemmed from their unbreakable bond. Meanwhile, Virdee's parents deliberated on the incident, with his father adhering to his belief that there was no place for him in their home.
Pritti warns Nazir that their current course of action is unsustainable, insisting that they risk being caught any moment. As Nazir steps away to use the restroom, an ominous darkness envelops the house as the lights abruptly flicker and die. Amidst this sudden plunge into chaos, Virdee's father suffers a devastating heart attack, sending shockwaves through the household. Sensing the impending peril, Pritti bolts for safety, her instincts尖叫 for survival. The episode concludes on a haunting image: Pritti, suspended and vulnerable, hanging in despair.
