Elsewhere, Hope orchestrates a drive-in movie fundraiser aimed at raising funds for wildfire relief. Upon realizing that the featured film is "Love Story," she panics, fearing it might distress Muriel, given its poignant portrayal of a cancer-stricken character. However, Muriel arrives with a surprising confession, disclosing her own situation and asking Hope not to alter the film selection. The women rally around Muriel, offering their unwavering support until her biopsy results are in, their bond tightening in a tender embrace.

Meanwhile, Preacher gears up for his maiden day of community service as a volunteer firefighter under Kaia's watchful eye. This new chapter places him in direct contact with Roy, a toxic presence at the fire station who resents Kaia, an outsider, for securing the chief's role and bristles at her gender. Brady, sensing the tension, warns Preacher to steer clear of Roy. But when Roy's derogatory remarks towards Kaia persist, she intervenes, asserting her authority and bringing Roy to heel. Her swift action prevents Preacher from resorting to any drastic measures, much like the legendary Mike Tyson.

At Brie's cozy abode, she informs Mike of her impending visit to the correctional facility to meet with a crucial witness. Unfazed, she declines a ringing call from Brady and proceeds with her preparations. Soon after, Mike receives a call and hastily departs for work. Brie, realizing her oversight, calls Brady to apologize for the voicemail she inadvertently left. She assures him it was a mistake, and Brady, ever the forgiving soul, lets it slide. However, keeping his promise of full transparency to Lark, he shares the details of the voicemail with her. This revelation, coupled with his heartfelt confession of love, propels Lark to visit Jimmy at the very same correctional facility.

Upon her arrival, Brie catches sight of Lark, and a warden casually mentions that Lark and Jimmy are an item, further disclosing that Hazel is Jimmy's daughter.

Elsewhere, Mel picks up Everett and graciously asks him to escort her down the aisle on her special day. Though initially hesitant, Everett reluctantly agrees and they set off for a lunch date. Throughout the meal, Everett's demeanor remains oddly off-kilter, and he steadfastly refuses Mel's request to perform the song he penned for Sarah at her wedding.

Meanwhile, Jack's father cannot seem to stop raving about Mel's wondrous influence on his son, believing she played a pivotal role in guiding Jack back onto the right path. This constant praise stings Jack deeply, as he knows his father never understood his reasons for enlisting. Later, while shopping for a wedding suit together, Jack expresses gratitude to his father and declares that he is letting bygones be bygones.

As Mel drops Everett back home, she gently inquires about his peculiar behavior. After persistent probing, Everett finally confesses that he is feeling utterly overwhelmed. Mel is taken aback and hurt by his admission, not anticipating such a profound sense of turmoil within him.

At the clinic, Walt made a quick stop to extend an invitation to Muriel for a date at the drive-in, and her joyful acceptance lit up her face. Meanwhile, Vernon received a shocking call from a boy named Brody, who reported that his father had lost consciousness after a devastating fall. Without delay, Vernon and Denny rushed to assist Brody and found his father in an unresponsive state. They promptly dialed for an ambulance, but were informed that the nearest one was a thirty-minute drive away. In a panic, Vernon reached out to a neurosurgeon from the nearby hospital, but the spotty internet connection cut their communication short before the doctor could guide Vernon through the necessary procedure.

Taking a bold leap, Vernon decided to perform a burr hole procedure, a task he had successfully executed years ago. Once Brody's father was stabilized, they rushed him to the hospital. Vernon was deeply moved when the neurosurgeon praised his efforts. Brody, too, expressed his heartfelt gratitude for saving his father's life. However, to Vernon's surprise, the Chief Medical Officer informed him that he would be reported to the board for conducting the procedure without proper qualification, consent, and supervision from a qualified neurosurgeon.

As Vernon returned home to prepare for the drive-in, Hope reassured him that the day would be wonderful and they shouldn't let the doctor's actions dampen their spirits. Across the field, Kaia thanked Preacher for pushing her to confront Roy and assert herself. In a quiet corner, Jack confessed that his father's words had hurt his feelings, while Mel encouraged him to give his dad the benefit of the doubt. They pondered what kind of parents they would be and shared their excitement about adopting a baby.

At the restaurant, Brady was closing up, ready to head to the drive-in. However, Brie's unexpected arrival dropped a bombshell truth about Lark. Brady was hurt and initially tried to eject her, but she waited patiently for him to calm down. Brady lashed out, blaming Lark's betrayal as his karma, but Brie admitted that it was her fault for making him question his worthiness of love. She assured him that she had learned from her mistakes and that he deserved all the love he could receive. In turn, Brady revealed that everything he knew about love had come from her.

Their emotional exchange led to a passionate kiss, which quickly escalated into a night of intimacy. The scene shifted to Lark, who dumped Jimmy over the phone once again, convinced that Brady loved her.

After the movie ended, Vernon noticed Everett searching for Mel. Everett confessed that he was ready to tell Mel the truth, and Vernon responded that it was indeed about time. However, he made it clear that he would never warm up to Everett because of the boy's death that Everett had caused.
