Meanwhile, at the barn, Hope rallies the troops, urging everyone to pitch in and get everything in place for the big event. Jack drops by, seeking her counsel in the escalating conflict between Mel and Vernon. He grants her carte blanche to interfere, and together, they hatch a scheme. Jack visits Vernon, pretending to be Mel's ambassador of peace, while Hope does the same with Mel. However, both Mel and Vernon are onto their trickery and refuse to yield.

Elsewhere in the narrative, Brie extends an invitation to Mike, asking him to move in with her, and he happily accepts. On a different note, Brady visits Jimmy and reveals that he's now dating Lark and will take care of Hazel. This revelation sets Jimmy off in a fit of rage. Later, Lark takes Jimmy to the small garage she's leased, offering it as a stepping stone for him to pursue his dreams. They vow to work through their trust issues together.

After days of bickering, Lizzie and Denny finally find common ground regarding their daughter. They agree to take it one step at a time, getting to know her before making any decisions. Muriel, in a poignant moment, shares her diagnosis with the ladies, and they assure her of their unwavering support and companionship.

As the wedding preparations intensify, Joey arrives on the scene and finally crosses paths with Everett. Meanwhile, Jack and Hope devise a new strategy to mend the rift between Mel and Vernon. Their plan reaches a climax when they devise a scheme to lure Vernon to the rehearsal, forcing him into a confrontation with Mel. In this tense encounter, Mel voices her deep disappointment in Vernon's actions, revealing her heartfelt wish to have both her fathers present at her wedding. However, it seems that her dream of having dual paternal support may be dashed. She lambasts Everett and Vernon for their secrecy surrounding their long-standing dispute. Suddenly, a call from Riley interrupts her turmoil, prompting her to rush to assist Marley.

The following day, Vernon and Everett finally confront their years-long animosity. Vernon reveals his guilt over choosing to save Everett instead of another boy during a critical moment, believing all this time that Everett had been on a drunken binge that led to a devastating accident. Everett, however, corrects this misconception, sharing that he was not drunk but suicidal, overwhelmed by the loss of Sarah and his exclusion from Mel's life. With the truth out, the two men find common ground and reconcile.

Just moments before the rehearsal dinner aboard the boat begins, Vernon arrives and offers Mel a heartfelt apology. They both commit to making amends and moving forward. Mel's conversation with Riley about the complexities of loving an adopted child provides her with a new perspective, realizing she has also caused Vernon pain. The rehearsal dinner concludes on a high note, and Jack later takes Mel to view the new house he is building for their future together. Upon returning home, Brie and Mike are stunned to find Brie's divorced parents rekindling their romance.

Denny and Lizzie, having resolved their own issues, visit the clinic for an ultrasound, deciding to honor Denny's late mother by naming their soon-to-be-born child after her. The episode draws to a close with Everett, finally tackling the song he composed for Sarah, suffering a sudden heart attack. In a panic, he reaches out to Mel for help, prompting her and Jack to rush to his side without delay.
