Washington Black – Season 1 Episode 7 1

In the present, nestled in Halifax, Tanna tenderly nurses Jack back to health. The moment his eyes flutter open, his first inquiry is about Billard. Relief washes over him upon hearing of Billard's demise and his subsequent liberation. Gratitude fills his heart as he thanks Tanna for her lifesaving efforts, leading to a tender kiss between them. However, this intimate moment is abruptly interrupted by Medwin, who seeks to speak with Jack.

Medwin acknowledges Tanna's deep affection for Jack andconfides in him the reason behind his inability to be with Angie. Angie, he reveals, is the widow of his best friend, and the guilt of loving her weighs heavily on his conscience. Jack, ever the catalyst for change, dares Medwin to embrace his feelings. Taking Jack's advice to heart, Medwin confronts his guilt and approaches Angie. He confesses his exhaustion from running away and they finally share a passionate kiss.

Meanwhile, Tanna persuades her father to include Jack in their journey to London. She cleverly uses Jack's aquarium as leverage in her negotiations. Her father agrees to bring Jack to the Royal Society of London (RSL) exposition, provided he receives credit for the aquarium. Tanna, ensuring Jack's recognition too, accepts the deal. Goff, though hesitant, concurs and vows to convince the influential members to make Jack the prestigious institution's first Black member, contingent on their victory.

As Angie and Medwin bid farewell to Jack and Tanna, Jack reclaims his birth name, George Washington Black, alias Wash. In London, Wash allows Goff to showcase his aquarium at the RSL exposition. On the exposition day, Wash unexpectedly reunites with Peter, an esteemed RSL member bursting with pride over Wash's accomplishment.

A nostalgic flashback transports us back to the Arctic, shortly after Titch and Wash's departure. Wilde ventures out to search for them but is thwarted by the relentless snowstorm. Meanwhile, Wash is miraculously rescued by a native couple, while Wilde continues his quest, finding Titch but sustaining leg injuries. Amidst his ordeal, Wilde is granted the awe-inspiring sight of the Northern Lights.

When Wilde is finally rescued, he is frail and fading. Peter strives to ease his discomfort in his final moments. In a poignant confrontation, Wash confronts Wilde about his treatment of Titch. Wilde, on his deathbed, shares heartfelt words intended for Titch but never uttered. These are his final, poignant reflections, a poignant testament to the complexities of their shared history.

Following Wilde's demise, Peter entrusted Wash with the RSL briefcase, presenting it with a sense of solemnity. The indigenous couple, with hearts brimming with hospitality, extended an invitation for Wash to join their fold, yet he respectfully declined. Peter then unfolded a map of Nova Scotia before Wash's eyes, whispering promises of liberty in its vast landscapes. As Wash prepared for his journey back, Peter captured his image in a photograph, preserving the moment forever.

In the bustling city of London, Wash introduced Tanna to Peter, weaving a tale of interconnected fates. Peter's discourse delved into the abolition of slavery and the fateful resale of the Faith plantation, hinting that Hampshire's Wilde estate might hold the key to unlocking Kit's untold story for Wash.

At the science expo, Wash's aquarium shone brightly, stealing the spotlight. However, Goff, in a brazen display of chicanery, usurped all credit for the ingenious creation. Pretending magnanimity, he feigned doing Wash a favor while steadfastly refusing to acknowledge his wrongdoing. Confronted by Tanna, who severed all ties with him, Goff's deceit was laid bare. Wash, too, conceded that he no longer needed Goff to carve his niche in the scientific realm.

Post-expo, Tanna and Wash embarked on a poignant journey to the Wilde residence in Hampshire. There, amidst the echoes of the past, Wash was reunited with Gaius, who warmly welcomed them into his home. Alas, they learned that Kit had passed away seven years prior, in 1830. The records, with a poignant clarity, revealed a stunning truth: Kit was Wash's birth mother, a revelation that bound their fates in an unbreakable bond of kinship.
