Cady harbors the notion that Harris's stern disapproval scared Gat into distancing himself the previous year. Gat, however, disputes this, but their conversation is abruptly halted as Penny, her worry etched across her brow, reprimands Cady for her daring cliff diving. Cady defends her actions, asserting that she seeks to jog her memory, daring Penny to intervene if she disapproves. Penny’s anger explodes, unveiling a heart-wrenching truth: every attempt to recount the past triggers seizures in Cady, erasing her memories. This revelation fuels Cady’s curiosity, propelling her to sneak into town to uncover her own past, with Gat, albeit reluctant, accompanying her on this quest.

Flashing back to Summer 16, the day designated for the Lemon Hunt arrives, casting a peculiar silence over Mirren as she ignores Cady. Similarly, Bess bestows the silent treatment upon Penny, whose half-hearted attempts at reconciliation, citing misunderstandings amidst the game, fall flat. She acknowledges their collective losses, especially her own, exacerbated by Harris’s disapproval of Cady and Gat’s relationship.

Just then, Harris enters the scene, his casual intimidation evident as he probes Gat about his aspirations. Gat, passionate about becoming a foreign correspondent for the voiceless, is interrupted by the arrival of Maya, Gat’s mother, who has been invited by Harris.

In the present Summer 17, Cady ventures into the town’s quaint bookstore, her quest leading her to her accident. The encounter provokes a seizure, leaving Gat to soothe her fragile state. He gently reassures her that she can confront her past when she is mentally prepared, offering her a reprieve in the form of a date. Her memory of the Lemon Hunt flickers back, and they indulge in nostalgic reminiscence.

Returning to Summer 16, Harris announces the prizes for the Lemon Hunt, where the collector of the most lemons wins the Boston house, while the finder of the elusive lime claims Beechwood Island. This announcement sets the stage for further intrigue and emotional turmoil amidst the Liars.

The Sinclair sisters insistently coerce their children into participating in the game, but Mirren stubbornly refuses until Ebon persuades her, driven by a desire to prove Bess wrong. The scene transitions to a vibrant montage of everyone eagerly and intently searching for clues. Penny unfortunately twists her ankle in the excitement. Meanwhile, Johnny engages in a lively negotiation with Will, Bonnie, and Liberty. Gat, however, remains a spectators, prompting Maya to wonder about his abstinence. It transpires that on the solitary occasion Gat won, Harris accused him of cheating and divided the prize with Johnny. Maya is distressed as Gat seems unperturbed by Harris's obvious prejudice. She remarks that Gat is altering himself to conform, but he acknowledges this, explaining that his priority is Cady.

Returning to the game, the Sinclair sisters wage a fierce battle over a stash of lemons. In a comical turn, Penny topples into a fountain, and Bess seizes the opportunity to grab all her lemons. Frustrated, Penny reveals Bess's affair to Carrie, who initially finds the revelation so absurd that she bursts into laughter before breaking down in tears. Gat notices their commotion and is asked by Penny and Bess to leave, allowing them to manage Carrie's panic attack in private. As he exits, Gat catches sight of Harris concealing a lime in his desk.

Elsewhere, the Sinclair Liars also find themselves at odds over lemons. Gat intervenes, producing the lime and delivering a passionate speech about how they are all enabling Harris's power trip and how he never intended to award the island to anyone. The Sinclair Liars concur, vowing not to let Harris drive them apart and mending their rift.

When the hunt concludes, the Sinclair Liars arrive empty-handed, while Gat boasts the highest tally of lemons, along with the lime. Harris accusations of cheating render their prizes null and void, but he offers Gat a shot at Tipper's scholarship, contingent on an interview in New York the following day. Cady urges Gat to seize the opportunity, clarifying that it is not a mere handout. Penny, however, recognizes Harris's manipulative tactics, admiring how he cleverly divided the young couple without appearing villainous.

Bess extends an olive branch to Mirren, too exhausted and defeated to maintain her faultless façade. Even in this moment, she blames Mirren for undermining their final chance at securing a home, given their financial ruin.

In the summer of '17, Cady prepared to venture back out, yet found herself thwarted by the absence of the boat keys. Awakening in her chamber, she was enveloped by a sense of disorientation. Gat disclosed that they had returned home after her seizure in the cozy confines of the bookstore. Fear and bewilderment clouded her mind, yet the presence of Gat offered her a semblance of solace. She also came to realize that Gat had not secured the scholarship, adding another layer of complexity to their situation.

Flashback to the summer of '16, where Gat, Maya, and Ed stood in town, eager to embark on their journey to New York. Gat posed a poignant question to Ed, inquiring if he harbored any regrets about being with Carrie. Ed responded with sincerity, acknowledging no regrets about their relationship but deeply lamenting the actions that had alienated her. He reassured Gat that life was a long journey, filled with ample time for self-discovery and redemption. This heartfelt exchange ignited a spark within Gat, compelling him to reconcile with Cady. Alas, their plans were dashed as news broke of all ferries being cancelled due to an emergency on Beechwood Island, with ambulances rushing to the scene.
