Episode 7 of "When Life Gives You Tangerines" kicks off with the excitement of the Olympics looming on the horizon, prompting officials to evict vendors from the local fish market to clear the sea route for the Olympic torch relay. This sudden disruption poses a severe threat to the vendors' livelihoods, leading them to voice their protests.
However, instead of aligning with his fellow villagers, Sang-sil sides with the authorities. It isn't until Ae-soon arrives and silently takes a stand by lying down in the road that the authorities' plans come to a grinding halt. Her bold act of defiance brings all Olympic torch clearance activities to a standstill.
As the elections draw nearer, Sang-sil resorts to underhanded tactics, attacking Ae-soon, his competitor. Through these attacks, we uncover a surprising contrast: while Geum-myeong, Ae-soon's daughter, shines academically, her younger brother falls short. He lands in hot water when his homeroom teacher summons Ae-soon, complaining about his various illicit school enterprises, including stealing license plate letters from teachers' cars and selling them!
Back in Jeju, Sang-sil's campaign continues, but his moment of weakness is exposed when the haenyeos, including Ae-soon, catch him massaging the feet of another woman. Seizing the moment, Ae-soon threatens to unveil his true colors, just as he had maliciously attacked her. This forces him to withdraw from the race.
This unexpected turn paves the way for Ae-soon to become the first female village chief, adored by her constituents. Gwan-sik, who has been quietly supporting her campaign, beams with pride. That night, the village celebrates in grand style, and later, Ae-soon reflects fondly on her mother's excitement when she declared her aspiration to become president someday.
Meanwhile, in Seoul, Geum-myeong finds herself tutoring students in secret, despite the illegality of her actions. We learn that she had to give up a precious opportunity to study in Japan due to her family's circumstances. During one tutoring session, the mother of one of her students presents her with a starting request: to take the exam in her ward's place, complete with fake documents already in place. Geum-myeong is left stunned.
Elsewhere in Seoul, Gwan-sik arrives unexpectedly to surprise Geum-myeong, only to find out that she is not qualified to reside in the dormitories. While he anxiously awaits her return, Yeong-beom, who happens to be on a break from his military duties, also finds himself waiting for her, quite coincidentally. After a brief period of time, Yeong-beom eventually spots Gwan-sik and, in a rather humorous twist, introduces him as a dear friend of Geum-myeong's.
Meanwhile, Geum-myeong stands firm in her refusal to participate in a fraudulent scheme, prompting her employer to retaliate with a malicious accusation of stealing a diamond ring. As the episode draws to a close, this unfair allegation hangs heavy in the air.
