"Eight years ago, Angelina initiated divorce proceedings against Mr. Pitt. She and the children subsequently vacated all properties they once shared with him, dedicating her time to restoring harmony and healing within their family," Jolie's attorney, James Simon, articulated in a statement. "This settlement is merely one chapter in a lengthy process that commenced eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is utterly drained, yet she finds solace in the fact that this particular aspect has concluded."

Back in 2016, the former Hollywood elite couple captured headlines when an alleged physical altercation unfolded on a private jet, where Pitt was purportedly accused of "choking" one of his children and "striking another in the face." Furthermore, he was also alleged to have "grabbed Jolie by the head and shaken her vigorously." Jolie promptly filed for divorce a matter of days later.

In April, Jolie's lawyer submitted a claim asserting that Pitt's physical abuse "dated back far beyond" the 2016 incident. Meanwhile, Pitt accused Jolie in 2022 of breaching "contractual obligations" by selling her half of their Château Miraval winery without his consent. In response, Jolie's legal team struck back at Pitt in their countersuit, accusing him of refusing to permit her to sell her share of the winery unless she signed "a nondisclosure agreement that would legally bind her from publicly discussing Pitt's physical and emotional abuse towards her and their children outside of court proceedings."
