Josh Brolin is embarking on a career milestone he describes as one of the most gratifying years of his illustrious career, culminating in his highly anticipated collaboration with visionary filmmaker Edgar Wright in The Running Man. This action-thriller, slated for release on November 14th, marks a project that has been in the works for nearly two decades, with Brolin and Wright first crossing paths at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. "There's a picture of me kissing Edgar on the cheek that I'm sure was the result of a bit of inebriation," Brolin shared with The Hollywood Reporter. "Cannes was the starting point for us, and over the years, we've always talked about working together."

Brolin stars as Dan Killian, the ruthless executive producer behind the film's deadly competition series, opposite the talents of Glen Powell and Colman Domingo. Wright's version stays closer to Stephen King's original story, departing from the 1987 adaptation by shedding Killian's dual identity as both the executive and host of the show. Brolin drew inspiration from real-life executives and billionaires, stating, "When you take someone out and get them drunk, they reveal things to you that you didn't even particularly want to hear." "It was invaluable to reflect on all those seemingly useless nights and realize, 'Oh, I can use that.'"

Reflecting on his busy year, which also includes Weapons and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, Brolin admits it has been one of his most fulfilling. "I did five movies back to back, so I'm really happy with the year. Sometimes, you're not as happy with the choices. It's not just based on audience reaction; it's based on how I feel about the movie. But I feel really good about what we did," he elaborated.

The Running Man opens exclusively in theaters on November 14th, ready to thrill audiences with its pulse-pounding action and Wright's unique visual style.
