Elle Fanning reflects on her biggest career milestone: 'Feeling another shift'

Elle Fanning is soaring to new heights in her remarkable career, with two films dominating the box office and awards circuit. The Golden Globe nominee led Predator: Badlands to a stunning $40 million domestic debut, setting a new franchise record, while also earning acclaim for her supporting role in Joachim Trier's Norwegian drama Sentimental Value, which opened to impressive numbers in limited release.

For Fanning, the success of both projects feels like the dawn of a new era. "I think we can say that," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "From a young girl, I knew 2025 would be an exciting year. I feel so happy. When you start working at two years old, you're going to feel shifts and changes constantly. The Great was that for me, and now I'm feeling another shift. It's a new chapter."

Fanning, who plays two synthetic characters in Predator: Badlands, said the film's bold creative choices reflect her desire to explore different genres. "I don't want to be put into a box," she explained. "I want to try all genres, to see it all. I want to be challenged."

She also praised directors who stay true to their artistic vision. "Audiences are not looking for something that's been formulated for them," she said. "There's no mathematical equation for art or for films."

As she continues to balance blockbuster action with intimate storytelling, Fanning admits she's energized by the dual success. "I'm in New York right now and trying to clone myself to do press for both," she said with a smile. "But yes, it's very exciting."
