Khloé Kardashian has opened up about her heartfelt decision to become the primary guardian for her ex-partner Tristan Thompson's brother, Amari, who battles the severe epilepsy condition known as Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS). During a recent episode of her podcast, "Khloé in Wonder Land," the 41-year-old Kardashian elaborated on her reasons for stepping in to care for 18-year-old Amari following the tragic passing of Tristan's mother, Andrea Thompson, in January 2023.
Kardashian revealed a profound connection she shares with Amari, who is profoundly disabled and requires round-the-clock attention. "Amari suffers from LGS, a severe form of epilepsy, and he is disabled," she explained. "He cannot walk or talk; he has never been able to communicate verbally." She noted that Andrea had been Amari's sole caregiver when the family resided in Canada, but after her death, the family relocated Amari to the United States to live with them.
However, Kardashian emphasized that Tristan's demanding NBA schedule makes it impossible for him to provide full-time care for his brother. "Tristan plays in the NBA, traveling to a different state practically every other day, which isn't feasible for Amari, who couldn't endure the constant travel," she said. "Amari experiences several seizures daily due to his condition." As such, Amari resides with Kardashian in Los Angeles, where she has generously taken on the role of his primary caretaker.
Kardashian expressed her heartfelt desire for Amari to be an integral part of her family and her commitment to giving him the best possible life. "We aspire to provide Amari with the finest, most wonderful life we know how. He truly deserves it," she stated. She also highlighted the positive impact having Amari in her family has had on her children, True and Tatum, as well as her extended family. "I believe it's crucial for my kids, my nieces, and nephews to encounter people from all walks of life," she shared.
Addressing questions about her motivation to help Amari despite no longer being romantically involved with Tristan, Kardashian said, "People often wonder why I did this. Me and Tristan aren't together, so why would I take on the responsibility of helping Amari?" She explained that she had a deep bond with Tristan's late mother, Andrea, and had assisted her with Amari's medical appointments. "My commitment to her has nothing to do with Tristan. Amari deserves someone who will be there for him, care for him, and provide him with a wonderful life. Amari deserves my love and care, regardless of my relationship status with Tristan," she emphasized.
