Christopher Nolan's cinematic masterpiece, "Interstellar," is poised for a triumphant return to Imax theaters, marking the prestigious 10th anniversary of its cinematic debut. Kicking off on December 6th, Imax will present a week-long exclusive re-release of this Paramount Pictures epic in stunning 70mm film and digital formats across select venues in New York, California, Texas, Arizona, Indiana, and Florida. Patrons eager to experience the 70mm screenings can secure their tickets from November 7th onward, while tickets for digital showings will be available later in the same month.
"Interstellar," which boasts an exclusive 64 minutes of footage filmed in the Imax aspect ratio, notched up an impressive $730 million at the global box office and garnered five Oscar nominations, ultimately clinching the award for Best Visual Effects. The star-studded ensemble includes Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Matt Damon, John Lithgow, Michael Caine, Timothée Chalamet, Ellen Burstyn, Bill Irwin, Wes Bentley, David Oyelowo, and Casey Affleck.
Nolan has maintained a close collaboration with Imax over the years, most notably during his tenure with the "Dark Knight" trilogy for Warner Bros. Last year, Nolan's "Oppenheimer," produced by Universal and a strong contender for the 2023 Oscars, amassed nearly $1 billion at the global box office, with a significant $190 million contribution from Imax theaters (both film and digital).
Imax is now gearing up for another close collaboration with Nolan on his forthcoming film, starring Matt Damon, set for a July 2026 theatrical release by Universal. During a recent earnings call, Imax executives hinted at Nolan's incorporation of groundbreaking, unprecedented technology in his latest venture.
