At her most recent concert, Billie Eilish paused to commemorate the historic victory of Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election and to express her solidarity with the women in attendance. The 22-year-old singer was in the midst of a performance in Nashville, Tennessee, on Wednesday evening, November 6, mere hours after Trump was officially declared the 47th President of the United States.
A fan-captured video shared on TikTok captured Eilish addressing the audience, her voice trembling as she admitted, "I found it hard to fathom performing a show on this particular day." She continued, "However, as the day progressed, I realized how fortunate I am to share this moment with you all, especially given the current times."
"I cherish you deeply, and I want you to know that you are safe and protected here, within this space," she emphasized, her words resonating with warmth and sincerity. "The song we're about to perform is one that my brother Finneas and I composed years ago. It speaks to the abuse that prevails in our world against women and draws from my own experiences and those of people I know. Truthfully, I've yet to meet a woman who hasn't faced some form of abuse. None."
Eilish's voice broke as she shared her personal struggles, "I've been through my own challenges, having had my boundaries crossed, politely put. And now, a person—let's call him a convicted predator, my heart races just saying it—someone who harbors such a deep hatred for women, is poised to lead our nation." Her words were met with loud boos from the crowd.
Representatives for Trump have been contacted by The Independent for comment.
In May of last year, the former president was found liable in a civil suit for sexual abuse and defamation against author and journalist E. Jean Carroll. While Trump was not criminally convicted, he was ordered to pay Carroll $5 million in damages. Throughout his career, the newly elected president-elect has faced accusations from over two dozen women of sexual assault, non-consensual touching, and kissing, all of which he has denied.
"This song is dedicated to all the women out there. I love you, and I stand with you," Eilish concluded, before launching into her song "TV" from her 2022 EP, Guitar Songs. The track includes a poignant reference to the reversal of Roe v. Wade, a landmark ruling that safeguarded the right to abortion.
Shortly after Trump's victory was announced, Eilish responded on Instagram, describing his win as "a war on women." Eilish and Finneas have been vocal advocates for Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. In September, the sibling duo endorsed the Vice President, urging voters to "protect our reproductive freedom, our planet, and our democracy." The singer of "What Was I Made For" encouraged her followers to "vote as if your life depends on it, because it truly does."
