Dakota Johnson, renowned for her roles in "Fifty Shades of Grey," "Black Mass," and "Suspiria," was honored at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) on Saturday. The audience for one of her latest films greeted the Hollywood icon with enthusiastic applause and adoration, bestowing upon her one of the Czech festival's prestigious awards.
On the third day of the 59th edition of the festival, a summer-infused evening bathed the spa town in warmth. The streets buzzed with activity as moviegoers rushed to and from screenings, grove to the rhythm of concerts, and dined and toasted in outdoor restaurants and bars.
Inside the Brutalist-style Hotel Thermal cinema, Johnson was summoned to the stage to receive the KVIFF President’s Award. With her upcoming film "Materialists," penned and directed by Celine Song and co-starring Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans, set to screen shortly, she gracefully accepted the honor. The audience erupted in thunderous applause, snapping photos and recording videos to capture the moment.
Johnson was then presented with the award statuette, which prompted another wave of raucous approval from the delighted crowd. In her heartfelt acceptance speech, she thanked the audience in Czech, delighting the attendees. She further praised Song, hailing her as "perhaps the foremost filmmaker of our time."
As Johnson descended from the stage, greeted by continued cheers and applause from the eager audience, everyone was eagerly anticipating the screening of "Materialists."
However, this was not the only film the actress brought to Karlovy Vary. Earlier on Saturday evening, Johnson had presented "Splitsville," a romantic comedy directed by Michael Angelo Covino and produced under her TeaTime Pictures banner, launched in 2019 alongside her producing partner Ro Donnelly.
The star also expressed her deep gratitude for being invited to the festival. "This resembles Disneyland," she told reporters, gazing at the picturesque Karlovy Vary. "It's madness here, yet so enchanting. I couldn't feel more thankful."
