Emilio Estevez had a blast from the past in the works, but it didn’t pan out.

Estevez was the latest guest on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he revealed he wrote a sequel script for Stephen King’s Maximum Overdrive and casually dropped that, in addition, he penned a script for a follow up to The Mighty Ducks franchise.

"I had the honor of penning 'Mighty Ducks 4' as well," the actor disclosed with a hint of excitement. "My intention was to rectify the missteps taken in the 'Game Changers' series and restore the magic."

Estevez last donned the role of Coach Gordon Bombay in 'The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers' for Disney+, bidding adieu to the show in November 2022 amidst a contractual tug-of-war. Yet, he couldn't shake off the feeling that the narrative was incomplete, prompting him to draft a speculative script that picked up right where the series left off.

"This script overflows with nostalgia," Estevez painted a vivid picture. "It reintroduces Coach Bombay, lured back by the allure of characters portrayed by Josh Jackson and Kenan Thompson, to lead a new team—an expansion franchise in the professional women's hockey league. Imagine an all-female squad, poised to conquer the ice with unmatched ferocity." He continued, "When we reconnect with Bombay, he's coaching roller derby, and with a sparkle in his eye, he declares, 'My girls are coming with me. They deserve their moment to shine bright!'"

Estevez extolled the screenplay as both "heartwarming" and "contemporary," but expressed disappointment, saying, "Disney's response was a decisive, 'We're not venturing down that road.'" He added with a touch of irony, "As for 'Maximum Overdrive,' I don't even own the rights to it anymore!"

The original 'Mighty Ducks,' released by Disney in 1992, and its sequels traced Estevez's Bombay as he, by court order, coached a mismatched team of young hockey players in their quest for redemption. The third film debuted in 1996, with the most recent installment being the second season of 'The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers' on Disney+.
