"Reaching the pinnacle is no sacrifice worth your soul. It’s merely…an unsavory exchange." Blue Harbor Ent. has unveiled an enticing teaser trailer for "The Sound," a chilling new horror film helmed by visionary filmmaker Brendan Devane. Has the realm of rock climbing ever been the setting for a horror narrative before, discounting the thrill-ride of "Cliffhanger"? A brave contingent of climbers ventures into perilous territory, a climb shunned for years. What starts as a daring quest soon morphs into a desperate struggle against an entity that toys mercilessly with their fates. As they scale the heights, they confront a malevolent presence that swiftly transforms their adventure into a harrowing fight for life itself, hundreds of feet above the earth. The poster eerily suggests the supernatural specter looming over the rock face, accompanied by an ominous rock soundtrack.
The ensemble boasts actor William Fichtner, joined by Marc Hills, Jocelyn Hudon, David Clennon, Christina Kirkman, with special appearances by Kyle Gass and real-life climbing legend Alex Honnold. I must confess, this premise piques my curiosity—especially since the climbing sequences promise authenticity, devoid of Hollywood's typical fake spectacle.
In the terrifying horror-thriller "The Sound," an elite group of climbers is granted unprecedented access to the Forbidden Wall, a enigmatic rock formation shut off to adventurers for decades. Among them is Sean (Marc Hills), whose grandfather made a doomed attempt some 63 years prior. As they ascend, they are confronted by a sinister force that swiftly turns their expedition into a harrowing fight for survival, suspended hundreds of feet in the air. Penned and directed by American indie auteur Brendan Devane, "The Sound" marks his sophomore effort following "The Canyonlands" (2021). Devane also serves as producer. To our knowledge, this film has yet to premiere at any festivals or screenings. Blue Harbor Ent. will introduce Devane's "The Sound" in select US theaters and on VOD, commencing June 27th, 2025.
