Wow! Universal Pictures has just unveiled the dazzling first official trailer for the movie "Forgotten Island," an animated adventure that takes us on a journey with two best friends. From DreamWorks Animation, this vibrant and emotional story follows two lifelong pals who must come together before they drift apart in the mystical world of Forgotten Island. Set for release in theaters starting in September this year, this new original film is written and directed by Joel Crawford & Januel Mercado, the talented duo behind "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish." They've outdone themselves with something even more creative this time!
Grammy and Academy Award-winning stars H.E.R. and Liza Soberano play high school graduates Jo & Raissa, who have been best friends since grade school but are now about to embark on separate life paths. They stumble upon a mysterious portal that transports them to the fantastical island of Nakali, filled with magical creatures they've heard stories about from their Filipino families. The voice cast also includes Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy, and Ronny Chieng.
Wow! This trailer didn't disappoint; it's seriously mind-bending animation in the second half. It's definitely on my radar now!
As they celebrate their last night together, Jo & Raissa discover a mysterious portal that leads them to the magical island of Nakali, filled with creatures from their Filipino folklore. Some of these figures will become friends, while others will be foes. Joined by the hapless but well-meaning werewolf Raww (Dave Franco) and a small but mighty pack of pals, Jo and Raissa must face The Dreaded Manananggal (Tony-winning icon Lea Salonga), the most feared creature on the island.
When they discover that the memories of their entire friendship are the price for returning home, Jo & Raissa race to find a way to leave the island before they forget each other forever.
"Forgotten Island" is co-written and co-directed by animation filmmakers Joel Crawford (also director of "The Croods: A New Age") and Januel Mercado (also of "Harvey Beaks"), both previously involved in the film "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish." Produced by Mark Swift, this movie is brought to you by DreamWorks Animation. Universal will debut DWA's "Forgotten Island" in theaters starting September 25th, 2026, this fall.
