The highly anticipated latest installment in the MonsterVerse franchise, titled "Godzilla x Kong: Supernova," is gearing up to make its thunderous debut in theaters. Warner Bros. and Legendary revealed on Friday that this epic clash, scheduled for a grand cinematic release on March 26, 2027, will bear the new moniker. To commemorate the inception of production on the sixth film in this monster-laden saga, which began with the 2014 blockbuster "Godzilla" and was recently concluded on the silver screen with "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," an intriguing teaser video was also unveiled.
Grant Sputore, the visionary director behind "I Am Mother," has taken the helm of "Supernova," penning the script alongside David Callaham and Michael Lloyd Green. The star-studded cast includes Kaitlyn Dever, Dan Stevens, Jack O'Connell, Matthew Modine, Delroy Lindo, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Sam Neill, promising a spectacular ensemble.
Plot secrets are being kept tightly under wraps for this upcoming film, which introduces a myriad of fresh human characters amidst the titanic struggle between Godzilla and Kong against a catastrophic force poised to annihilate the world. Mary Parent and Thomas Tull are overseeing the production as producers.
Under Adam Wingard's expert direction, "The New Empire" grossed over $570 million worldwide and introduced Stevens as the memorable monster dentist, Trapper, who reprises his role in "Supernova." The MonsterVerse franchise also boasts the Apple TV+ series "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters," which has secured a second season. Starring Anna Sawai and Kiersey Clemons alongside Wyatt Russell and Kurt Russell, who share the role of Lee Shaw, the series promises more monster-sized thrills.
In his review of "The New Empire" for The Hollywood Reporter, critic Frank Scheck remarked, "To the filmmakers' credit, they manage to infuse the proceedings with a semblance of an emotional journey, as Kong heartwarmingly displays more relatable feelings than many of today's overpaid human stars. (Though Godzilla still lags a bit behind in the empathy department.) MonsterVerse enthusiasts will rejoice to know that Mothra also makes a grand entrance and is almost certainly destined for future adventures in the series."
