‘Good Boy’ Trailer Shows Haunted House From Dog’s Perspective

Published: Aug 20 2025

Unveiled on Monday, the official trailer of "Good Boy" introduces Indy, an unwaveringly loyal dog, and his devoted owner Todd (Shane Jensen), as they embark on a fresh chapter in a new abode, only to uncover lurking supernatural phenomena shrouded in darkness. As malevolent forces inch closer, the plucky pup summons the bravery to safeguard his master and their domain.

The preview commences with tender glimpses of Indy as a puppy, accompanied by heart-warming epithets like "man's best friend," "always by your side," and "through the good times" flickering across the screen. However, the narrative soon takes a chilling detour, with the dog's ears perking up at unsettling sounds echoing through the stillness of the night.

The eerie silence in the house is shattered by haunting knocks, prompting Indy to investigate. The banging intensifies as an unseen figure slams their forehead against a door. Indy barks furiously to alert Todd to the impending peril, but viewers are left on the edge of their seats as the scene abruptly cuts to black.

A succession of spine-tingling sequences ensues, with Todd's grandfather (Larry Fessenden) emitting a bone-chilling growl while Indy watches in wide-eyed trepidation. The rest of the preview is filled with rapid-fire clips of Indy dashing through forests and keeping vigilant watch at night.

The official synopsis of "Good Boy" narrates: "Our canine protagonist, Indy, embarks on a fresh venture with his human companion and best friend, Todd, as they bid adieu to city life for a long-abandoned family home nestled in the countryside. From the onset, two things become crystal clear: Indy's wariness of the eerie old mansion and his unwavering devotion to Todd."

Marking director Ben Leonberg's maiden foray into feature filmmaking, "Good Boy" couldn't have found a more fitting lead actor than Leonberg's own dog, Indy. The ensemble cast of "Good Boy" also boasts Arielle Friedman, Anya Krawcheck, and Stuart Rudin. The film made its debut at the SXSW Film Festival in March.

IFC Films will distribute the film in North American theaters on October 3, with the U.K. release following suit a week later on October 10.
