"In the face of an existential threat, drastic actions are called for..." Signature Entertainment in the United Kingdom has unveiled the official trailer for "Tin Soldier," the latest high-octane action thriller helmed by Brad Furman, the visionary director behind "The Lincoln Lawyer" and "Runner Runner." This film, however, appears to be yet another forgettable, tacky action flick destined for immediate Video On Demand (VOD) release due to its startling lack of intrigue. While a US release date remains unannounced, UK audiences will have the exclusive opportunity to stream it on Prime Video this summer.
"The Bokushi" presents itself as a program catering to American combat veterans seeking their "raison d'être" and a clear path ahead. Yet, the government has grown increasingly concerned about the swift ascension of this well-armed, highly disciplined contingent of elite mercenaries. In response, they enlist one of their own – a former member – to infiltrate and dismantle this formidable force. The stellar ensemble cast includes Jamie Foxx, Robert De Niro, Scott Eastwood, John Leguizamo, Joey Bicicchi, and Rita Ora, an astonishing lineup for a movie seemingly headed straight to VOD. How they managed to assemble such talent remains a mystery. Jamie Foxx as the eccentric, charismatic leader of a mercenary cult? Why not, indeed. Nonetheless, it doesn't bode well for the film's quality.
Jamie Foxx casts a mesmerizing spell in this thrilling tale of cult compound extraction. The Bokushi preaches to hordes of war veterans, enticing them with the promise of sanctuary and a sense of purpose under his wing. Flanked by his devout, military-trained disciples, he has constructed an unassailable fortress and amassed a formidable arsenal. After numerous abortive infiltration attempts, the government, represented by operative Emmanuel Ashburn, recruits Nash Cavanaugh, a former special forces operative and once a devoted follower of The Bokushi. Nash agrees to harness his turbulent past and intimate knowledge of the enigmatic leader to exact revenge on the man who stripped him of everything, including the love of his life.
"Tin Soldier" is directed by American filmmaker Brad Furman, whose resume includes "The Take," "The Lincoln Lawyer," "Runner Runner," "The Infiltrator," and "City of Lies." The screenplay is penned by Jess Fuerst and Pablo Fenjves, with Brad Furman himself serving as a producer alongside Steven Chasman, Brad Feinstein, Jess Fuerst, Keith Kjarval, and Jim Seibel. Signature Entertainment will introduce "Tin Soldier" directly to streaming platforms in the UK starting July 23rd, 2025. US viewers, however, will have to wait patiently for further updates on a release date – stay tuned for more developments.
