Adapted from Brett Neveu's acclaimed 2002 stage play, Shannon's directorial debut centers on Janice (Judy Greer), a woman grappling with the devastating aftermath of a heinous crime committed by her son. Plunged into a fog of sorrow and anger, she finds herself unable to release the grip of her bitter frustration. While her husband Ron (Alexander Skarsgård) seeks solace in a new church, Janice struggles to find comfort in her faith, despite her pastor's earnest attempts to bind her wounds through community and connection with the mothers of her son's victims.

As Janice ponders her place amidst the community, she wonders if there exists a definitive path to healing from such a harrowing experience. Also starring Alison Pill, Paul Sparks, and Tracy Letts, "Eric LaRue" delves into the raw emotional turbulence stirred by violent acts.

In this poignant narrative, Janice, still reeling from her son's murder of three classmates, navigates life in a trance-like state, unable to let go of her seething anger and despair. While Ron finds refuge in religious solace, Janice's path to faith remains fraught, even as her pastor urges her to heal within the church's embrace. As Janice contemplates the potential impact of meeting the bereaved mothers, "Eric LaRue" invites viewers to witness the delicate, frayed edges of emotional devastation wrought by violence.

Directed by the versatile American actor-filmmaker Michael Shannon in his feature directorial debut, the screenplay is penned by Brett Neveu, based on his own play. Produced by Sarah Green, Karl Hartman, and Jina Panebianco, "Eric LaRue" will finally make its cinematic debut in select US theaters on April 4th, 2025, followed by a VOD release starting April 11th.
