Ghostface has set its sights on a fresh victim, as Isabel May, renowned for her starring roles in the Yellowstone prequels, 1883 and 1923, has secured the coveted part of Neve Campbell's daughter in the highly anticipated Scream 7. Talks are now underway for her to share the screen with the iconic Scream Queen herself.
Spyglass Entertainment is busy reshaping the seventh chapter of the horror saga, left in disarray by the departure of its young stars, Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera. Campbell, who skipped the previous installment due to a pay dispute, returns to shine a spotlight on her character, Sidney Prescott, and her daughter. At the helm is Kevin Williamson, the franchise creator who penned the original script directed by Wes Craven, as well as Scream 2 and Scream 4. The screenplay for this chilling sequel has been crafted by Guy Busick, who penned the 2022 iteration of Scream and its upcoming sixth chapter.
Paramount Pictures has set a thrilling date for Scream 7's theatrical release: February 27, 2026. Producers for the film include James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment.
The casting of Campbell came as the production needed a creative rejuvenation. Barrera was dismissed from the franchise last year amid controversy over her social media posts about the Israel-Hamas conflict, while Ortega had quietly exited the project months prior. Following these exits, the original director, Christopher Landon, announced his departure.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, collectively known as Radio Silence, breathed new life into the series with their directorial prowess in the 2022 Scream. Their follow-up, Scream VI, released last year, garnered an impressive $166.3 million at the global box office.
The original 1996 film, Scream, directed by Wes Craven from a script initially penned on speculation by Williamson, introduced Sidney to horror fans. Since then, she has been the franchise's cornerstone, alongside Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and David Arquette as Dewey Riley.
May, who also portrayed Elsa Dutton in 1883 and 1923, appeared in the 2022 romantic comedy I Want You Back and co-starred in the Apple TV+ series Masters of the Air. She is represented by CAA and Principal Entertainment.
